I am looking for a new computer (well, two), one that is medium range, or soemthing, one will be higherish end. I know of Alien ware, but it's a bit pric, and I live in BC, Canada, so I would prefer not paying expensive shipping and prices in canadian dollars. I want some links to sites, preferably where you can do some customizing like at alienware.

EDIT: I officialy hate dell. SInce I can't blame my dad too much as he knows nothing about computers. I blame dell.

Get a PC for one of the computers to cover compatability issues (ie Civ), and a Mac for the other. If you have the money, get a PowerMac G5 Quad (two dual core processors). I have a Mac and a PC, and love the Mac, but use the PC for things like Civ.

Errr, I should have made myself clearer. i want to play games, most of wich are NOT mac supported/I am not gonig to buy a new copy of/will not lesson the mod experiance of. And I think that putting 60+ games on one comp is a bad idea. I want PC companies.
Also, only one reply so far? *sigh* Lousy real life...

EDIT: I have nothing against macs other than lack of compatiability. And these two computers will NEVER EVER be in the same area, not for several years anyways.

Check out Cyberpower.com and Ibuypower.com. They build custom systems and can build an AMD system if you're looking to save some money. Those were the companies I narrowed it down to, before I decided to build my own. They are much less expensive than Alienware or Falcon NW.

In the October Computer Gaming World they have reviews of systems from Cyberpower and Ibuypower. Both rated pretty high, so I wouldn't be too afraid of using them.

Don't try and go too cheap, though. If your Dad doesn't want to keep buying new computers, make sure your system will last a couple of years or is easily upgradeable. SATA capability and PCI-Express slots on the motherboard are the two things I can think that you will absolutely need to be able to keep a system fairly current with upgrades.

Good luck with the search.

THanks, I will be checking out those sites. And i won't let him go to cheap. He can afford a $2000 system, not all the time of course, but he is cheap sometimes. and I have speakers, keyboard (might replace it during all the cheapness of e-bay x-mas rush with something nice) + mouse + monitor. So I just need a cpu. for at my dads I am looking for the midrange?. A high end for my other place.

EDIT: Cyberpower.com is a chat room...

Anyothers? And um, any sites that can help you determine what you need? I have no idea about differences in different motherboards for eg..

What I'm thinknig:. 1gig ram, Nvida 6600gt, 160 gig hard drive, and I havn't a clue about the other things... maybe someone can help me select? I do not know dif of motherboards, eg.

If you have a $2000 budget and no need to buy monitor, speakers or etc, you could build an absolute top of the line system, at least if you built it yourself. No idea what that'll get you from an OEM though.

If you have that kind of a budget, I would really consider building your own -it's not that difficult- or if nothing else buy the parts and have a friend or the local computer shop help you assemble them.

NO, it is more like a $1200 CAD budget... maximum... Hmmm, well one of the main problems is I do not know one motherboard from another... and when they offer you the choice of ~16 different motherboards all I could make out was nforce, sata, pci-e.... way to much tech jargon on the labels. I wonder if there is a site about motherboards...

EDIT: I tried making a system that I wanted for my other house, $2800 CAD is a weee bit much...
Anyone know a link to a mroe helpful site/forum? (no offense, you are helpful, just not enough activity.)
