LOVE CIV IV ... However, I cannot seem to continue play because every time I try to open a saved game file, my computer simply shuts down and restarts. There is no error screen or anything else. Everything appears to be going well ... I am at the sound effects that indicate that the game is about to appear on the monitor and .... BOOM ... Shutdown ... Restart.

System is P4 2.4, 1 gig ram ... I might also mention that the Civ IV software was bought at Direct to Drive ... OS is WinXP Home ... SP2

Otherwise ... game works quite well!!

Smallcarp,

I have a buddy who has the same problem as you. I am unsure of his specs, but he said the game would not really run until he patched it. Once he patched it, all was well. He started another game and built his first wonder when boom, kicked to restart. Then he went to save same thing, then he tried to delete his saved games file wouldnt delete. He ran defrag. to see if that would help, his computer got to a certain point and it locked up???

Look forward to seeing a solution to your computer problem is.

Molarman ...

Glad to know I am not alone on this one ...
I have patched my game as well, and as for general performance of the game, it is great. It is not being able to play the saved game that is frustrating.

I have uninstalled the game, moved it to another drive, reinstalled the patch, and checked that all files were fresh and nothing left from previous install ... same deal still!!

Trying to play the save simply reboots the computer ... no harm seems to be done ... just can't continue my play.

Looking for answers ...

Thanks for your input.
