RealPlay (some RealPlayer component)
sprtcmd (your ISP's support tool)
ctfmon (part of MS Office)
Adobe Reader Spe... (Acrobat reader)
Microsoft Office (part of MS Office)

Cheers, did so to little effect :(

Perhaps i really am going to have to reinstall windoze for my father

the atiptaxx.exe can be turned off too, it's just the ATI traybar thingy. Same for the CloneCDTray.exe

the nokia thingy's most likely a synchronizer for your cellphone? Unless you use it often I'd turn that off too.

You can safely turn off everything under the start-up tab. I currently have everything but my anti-virus and folding@home turned off. Now what I'm looking for is a way to remove entries from there.

Thats what I did, especialy picking up some malware that effected Windows XP.

Defragging usually restores some performance, depending on how fragmented the data is.

I also suggest running a registry cleaner and removing all broken & useless registry entries. These may have a significant impact on startup speed. Remember to backup the registry first, just in case something relevant gets removed. Most of the registry cleaning tools have good instructions and you can rarely cause damage if you follow them and apply common sensetm.

The Registry Cleaner that I'd recomend is CCLeaner.
