Cone2-Rebuild the Roman empire. Middle ages conquest.

The Viking intro. tech (forgot its name) at minimum is always the best starting choice in Middle Ages. The Viking tree is very powerful, giving Blacksmiths and the Viking Sagas small wonder. We should be able to afford buying HBR from one of the AI by the time it appears from running min science.

Yeah, I played too in the game with cizzlewalk a nd he is right. this are our priorities:
-get the iron
-get workers, nicaea has to stay (we want dromons in the black sea)
-get some swords (constantinople!) and blow the hell out of the bulgars. (alternatively begin settling towards georgia (they have tar, too)
-After that we can straight invade into italy (but the tar is necessary.... ;)

mfG mitsho

I played 20 turns.
Well, I did something a little different.
On turn 3 I started my attack on the Bulgars. The war last until turn 20 but I managed to get 4 cities out of them. The war was fought mainly with archers and spears but we lost our 3 swords in the war. The Bulgars are pretty much crippled. The tar and there a is bunch of iron in the Balkens and we pretty much have it. We got the tar. I will post the turns later.

First theSAVE

Preturn- Set Research toward Norse Tradition at minimal research making 34 gpt. I decided I might want to try an early Attack on the Bulgars to get the tar. Start shuffling all avaible troops toward constantinople and Larissa to be picked up by Dromons.
IT-nada
1- Continue to shuffle troops.
IT-irrigate finishes near constantinople.
2- Almost have troops in position.
IT-Constantinople archer->archer.
3- Load archer in Dromon. Troops in position. Declare on the Bulgars and unload 2 spears, 3 swords, and an archer near Pliska. Send a spear into Pliska territory.
IT- 3 Bulgar swords appear, but do not threaten our troops. Corinth warrior->spear, Adrianople warrior->warrior.
4- Attack Pliska, kill 2 spears, a horse, and a king. Lose a sword and a spear. Capture 2 workers. Capture the city. Bombard a bulgar sword with our Dromons take off a HP. Contact Magyars.
IT- 2 Bulgar swords move on the hill SW of Pliska. Sinope warrior->worker. Caesarea warrior->worker. Ancyra warrior->worker. Ephesus warrior->temple. Larissa warrior->warrior. Resistance in Pliska ends.
5- Bombard sword again, redlining it. warrior and spear continue toward Pliska. Kill the 2 swords with a 3/4 sword, takes no damage and a 3/3 sword now 2/3. Bulgar slaves start roading. A spear and 2 warriors leave Larissa. Spots Iron.
IT- Another sword appears on the mountian W, SW of Pliska, a warrior N, NW. Constantinople archer->archer.
6- Bombard the sword again. Our spear/ 2 warriors continue north. Retreat our troops into Pliska.
IT-Warrior moves north of Pliska, the sword SW of Pliska.
7- Kill the sword. 3/4 sword now 2/4. Just noticed Pliska has a Barracks. Fortify our troops their. Unload an archer on the tile being roaded by the Bulgar slaves. They will be done next turn. Bombard sword again.
IT- The sword I been bombarding moves to join the warrior a sword appears 2 tiles north of Pliska. Adrianople warrior->warrior.
8- Our spear and 2 warriors move into Bulgar territory outside Sredets. Slay the sword near Pliska, Promoting our sword to vet. Kill the warrior, promoting our archer to elite. move a spear to protect the archer from the sword.
IT- The sword attacks our spear, redlining the spear, the sword dies. Constantinople archer->settler. Pliska worker->warrior.
9- Load warrior and archer into Dromon in Nicaea and unload them on the road south of Pliska. Move our spear and 2 warriors move around Sredets. It is defended by a spear and on a hill. Switch Adrianople to an archer and cash rush it for 68 gold.
IT- Athens worker->worker. Sinope worker-> temple. caesarea worker->temple. Attalea worker->worker. Ancyra worker->temple. Larissa warrior->Barracks. Adrianople archer->Barracks. Nicaea worker->worker.
10- Continue to move troops into position to attack. Contact Turks.
IT- Cornith spear->rax.
11- Attack Ruse with a vet archer. Archer kills a Spear and Promotes to Elite. Attack with a elite archer killing another spear. Attack the archer in Ruse with a regular spear, the spear wins promotes to vet and.. captures a worker. Horses are finished being roaded. Another archer is loaded up and dropped off near Pliska.
IT- 3 Bulgar archers appear in 3 different spots.
12- Move most of our army inside Ruse. Fortify our spear and 2 warriors on a mountian. They are stuck between 2 archers. Contact the Abbasids. Constantinople is size 9 now and will riot next turn so hire scientist and turn off science gaining 4 more gpt. Switch Larissa to temple and rush for 88 gold. Temple rushed in Ephesus for 52 gold. Switch Athens to Barrack, don't rush.
IT- Archers move into our territory. Ephesus temple->barracks. Larissa temple->barracks. Constantinople settler->spear.
13- Science back to 10%. Load settler in Dromon and unload him where I want him. Lose a sword attacking an archer, then kill sword with an elite archer, no leader.
It- Archers move south of Ruse.
14- settle Varna. Kill the 2 archers. Attack Sredets with a regular warrior killing a spear. Lose a warrior attacking again. Rush an archer for 40 gold in Pliska.
IT-Constantinople spear->settler. Pliska archer-> archer.
15- Move sword to join spear and warrior on mountian outside Sredets. MOvements.
IT- an archer appears near our spear/warrior/sword stack near Sredets.
16-Our sword attacks Sredets killing a spear, takes no damages, the warrior and spear remain forified. Troops in Ruse are done Healing and they go off to fight.
IT- the Bulgar archer continues east, Larissa and Ephesus' borders expand
17- Attack Sredets again and our sword is killed. Move our army stack outside the city of Sredets.
IT- another archer appears, the archer going east returns west. Constantinople settler->spear.
18- the Settler is loaded up and lands where I want it to in 1 turn. Rush temple for 44 gold in Ancyra, Rush a temple in Caesarea for 56 gold. Rush an archer for 36 gold in Pliska.
IT- Caesarea temple->worker. Ancyra temple->barracks. Pliska archer->archer.
19- Settle Smyrna. Attack Sredets. Lose 3 archers kill 2 spears. Movements.
IT- Attalea worker->worker. Ruse warrior->temple. Nicaea worker->worker.
20-Must take Sredets on this turn. Our elite archer loses to an elite spear in Sredets giving them a Great Leader. Then attack with a 2/3 archer. Killing the spear and the leader and taking the city. The archer is promoted to vet. Make peace with the Bulgars gaining the city of Vindin and 1 gold. The city is located NW of Sredets and is size 3. How nice of them. Start roading Tar. Rush temple in Pliska for 112 gold.

We have tar. When It is done being road we should start building Dromons in Cornith because it has a harbor. Constantinople should be a spear/settler factory. Keep the Dromon in Constantinople there for shipping the settlers around. We should start settling the rest of our land and maybe try to get a city on the Italian Peninsilia. We make 50 gold per turn. So use it for rushing improvements. We still need more workers. So produce them in corrupt cities and Nicaea. We should save up vet warrior from the towns building barracks then upgrade them to swords when the iron is hooked up. I think that the Abassids should be our next target and for style points launch a seaborne assult at the holyland.

Sorry to spoil the dotmap, but no cities in deserts in this scenario. Also, Constantinople should be churning out Settlers right now, as it has plenty of "extra" pop.

@Cuivienen Good point about desert, we should worry about our first ring cities before desert anyways. Also, I don't think we want Const to make many settlers. One or two right now is not bad, but it has too good production to just give up! The city can pop a sword or horse out every other turn, thats pretty valuable on emporer+ games. My 2 cents, that all.

Btw, who's up now?

Nevermind, it is Mitsho's turn.

Oh I'm sorry, I strangely got no message for this thread. I would've wathced closer. But I'm sorry, I'm going abroad tomorrow (to Bulgaria) until 1st may. So, sorry for the delay...

Woot Bulgaria, just the place to go for a real education :D

Ok then, I got it. Should I try to build up our navy, or should I focus on warriors/horses? In my game I only built horses, then the major upgrade took place.

Also, I think we should go for Magyars next because having the Balkans is awesome, having a FP there (much later) WILL pay off in the long run. However, I'll see what the team says before I play.

Well I think that we should build Dromons in Cornith because it has a harbor. Settlers in Constantinople, we don't Have HBR so build warriors.

*Pre-Turn*
Not much, just hope barbs pop out of those clouds for some free VP and promotions (as long as we can stand against those damned Keshiks :mad: ). Take a look around and notice that the Bulgars are udderly screwed :D. Switch Vidin to worker since it wasn't worth the wait for a reg. spear. Barely caught this, had to put entertainer in Sinope otherwise would've messed up production on temple, curses.
We are the largest empire with the best city, we have the most VPs (940) versus our runner up the Abbasids (500).

ib- Bulgars pull their forces out of our lands.
*Const spear--spear(MP)
*Pliska temple--warrior
*Adrianople brax--spear

turn 1, 906 a.d.
Send dromon in Const (?) out scouting the Black Sea. Move a worker onto a BG by Adrianople, begins to mine. MM to get Sredets to grow and get worker faster. Our wandering warriors are getting slowed up by their fiber-enriched nutrition bars :cringe:.

ib- Bulgars are barely visible.
*Varna worker--brax

turn 2, 909 a.d.
Workers fix up Attalea with some irrigation. Move units in Southern Greece, connecting our empire is essential right now!

ib- Watch Burgundy build Naples above Rome, notice a wandering Frenchy sword come into view.
*Const spear--settler
Many cities Culturally Expand.

turn 3, 912 a.d.
Move dromon into northern Crimean. Begin moving warriors northwards (we GOTS to find them there Russians someday soon!).

ib- Burgundy kicks us out of Venician lands.
*Athens brax--spear
*Caesarea worker--worker
*Smyrna warrior--granary

turn 4, 915 a.d.
Dromon is moving further north to find the heartland of the Turks. Meet Germany w/ SETTLER where French sword was, he already had HBR but at ridiculost prices. We now have tar, begin to take care of that marsh.

ib- Germany builds Frankfurt near our borders. :hmm:
*Ephesus brax--spear
*Larissa brax--settler
Pliska Culturally Expands.

turn 5, 918 a.d.
Smryna and Ephesus are connected to our empire. Workers move to begin connecting the silks and other stack goes to mine gold hill in Varna. Germany, Abbasids, France and Burgundy have HBR.

ib-
*Const settler--settler
*Pliska warrior--warrior
*Adrianople spear--warrior (EVERY OTHER TURN!)

turn 6, 921 a.d.
Turks and Magyars know HBR.

ib-
*Vidin worker--temple

turn 7, 924 a.d.
um... nadda...
So here is some useless info, we have 605 gp w/ +35 gpt

ib- Abbasids ask us to leave, sure...
*Ancyra brax--spear
*Adrianople warrior--warrior

turn 8, 927 a.d.
Workers move their way over to the dyes near Sinope. MM Sinope to get their production going again.

ib-
*Sinope temple--brax
*Sredets worker--worker

turn 9, 930 a.d.
We meet those nutty Fatamids :crazyeye:, they have HBR too. Begin mining another hill in Varna (want our first ring to be powerful). Silks are online, move workers to connect new city about to be built.

ib-
*Attalea worker--temple
*Ephesus spear--dromon (finally!)
*Corinth brax--spear (needed an entertainer though)
*Const settler--settler (We Love the Empress Day... for moving?)
*Adrianople warrior--warrior
*Nicaea worker--spear (vetoable)

turn 10, 933 a.d.
Move workers for more mining.
Founded Heraclea --spear, other settler is heading for the spot right above the quarry. Our warrior production is nice, but we need at least double our military before we launch attack v. Magyars/Abbys. Overall, the army is an average one.

We still have the largest empire and best city. Our VPs keep us in first at a stand still 940, but Abbys are closing in at 810 (in 10 turns!) due to tech and barb killing. We need to kill some barbs peeps! Anyways, we are at 724 gp w/ +37gpt, NT in 11.

And...SAVED!

The Abbasids, remember, have the sole VP location at Jerusalem, which gives them 25 VP per turn. That means they only actually got 60 VP during your turns, but made an additional 250 from Jerusalem. Another good reason to attack the Abbasids early -- the 25 VPpt will be a real help in finally winning (remember, we need a whopping 60,000 VP in this variant).

In any case, this is a "got it."

I really want to go for domination. Remember we have to take all of the lands on the map I linked to on the first post.

True... I'm not sure if even the entire Roman Empire at its height fills the domination requirement. Oh well. We can always conquer new lands! :hammer:

Roma Delenda Non Est

933 AD (IT) -- Change Pliska to a Settler to settle north of the city. Otherwise, good to go!

936 AD (1) --

Athens: Spearman --> Settler
Ancyra: Spearman --> Palace (HRE prebuild. If we start this early, we should be able to beat the Western civs to it. We'll be able to afford a steal by the time we get Castle Building. Besides, we are the true heirs of Rome, are we not?)

Hurry the Settler in Pliska (72 gold).

939 AD (2) --

Caesarea: Worker --> Worker
Pliska: Settler --> Warrior
Adrianople: Warrior --> Warrior

942 AD (3) --

Dyes on-line. The people of Constantinople are 100% happy.
We meet Cordova. They have HBR.

945 AD (4) --

Larissa: Settler --> Settler
Adrianople: Warrior --> Warrior
Vidin riots >_<

948 AD (5) --

We meet the Danes. They, too, have HBR. We dial up Cordova, the weakest AI, and buy HBR for 389 gold.
Constantinople: Settler --> Settler
Ruse: Temple --> Barracks

Trebizond founded due south of Ancyra.
Chalcedon founded north of Pliska on the coast.

951 AD (6) --

Adrianople: Warrior --> Warrior

954 AD (7) --

We meet the Swedes and Castilians.
Sredets: Worker --> Worker
Pliska: Warrior --> Warrior

Sardica founded near Larissa. It starts a Temple.

957 AD (8) --

We meet Norway.

Ephesus: Dromon --> Settler (for Crete)
Adrianople: Warrior --> Warrior

960 AD (9) --

Constantinople: Settler --> Dromon
Varna: Barracks --> Horseman (we will need a few of these for our attack on the Abbasids, plus they upgrade to Cataphracts)

963 AD (10) --

We meet the Celts.

Corinth: Spearman --> Settler
Adrianople: Warrior --> Warrior
Nicaea: Spearman --> Worker
Smyrna: Granary --> Barracks
Heraclea: Spearman --> Barracks

I left a number of units unmoved. There is a stack of Warriors in Ancyra ready to upgrade as soon as our Iron road completes (2 turns). The next player may want to declare war, or may want to continue troop build up. I spent most of my turn expanding, so our troop numbers are still fairly low.

Norse Tradition is due in 1, at which point we should probably go for Castle Building at a fairly fast rate, then trade it around for gold, steal Western Church from a Catholic civ and build HRE.
