Since the stories I write think about are as a general rule about the Confederation of Sarronyn, which I use for the naming of my cities in Fall from Heaven, I've gotten around to thinking about something...
Basically, would it be possible to have it so that each city you build is, in effect, it's own mini-civilization/leader? A quick overgrown example, basically your first city could be the equivelant of an Amurite city under Dain, while your second might be a Bannor city under Decius, and third could be Sidar underMorgoth Sandalphon.
I've also been thinking, in my lack of modding ability, how to be able to do such. Obviously you could have some kind of script so that X city number is always such mini-civ, or you might even have it by name, or resource supply. Unfortunately, the only way I can think of to actually make it work is to use buildings (I use those a lot in my ideas, don't I?) that are pre-reqs for all of that city/civ's features.
Example of the idea if based on city-name.
Sarronyn, the capital of the Confederation, is a magic and trade based civilization... So the unique building at that city could apply the promotions from the Arcane trait and, say, Financial (though I'm myself partial to Philisophical. ^^;; ) effects to the city. Also, making unique adept/mage/archmage units buildable (probably best to only be upgradable from the other UU).
Keidra, the main center for military power in the Confederation, could have the defensive/organized traits applied to it and the city, as well as giving UU knights and melee infantry.
...and so forth...
Some of the things I'm having trouble figuring out right now is how to make some of the traits work... Like, say, charismatic? Could a promotion be given to units that makes them need less experience, or is that a leader-only trait? Also, if you have a UU for an adept or something, and require a special building for them, does that make it impossible for other cities to build the non-UU of them without that building, or would you have to make it so all cities can build normal and only cities with the UB can build the UU?
