Confusion: How to declare war without getting a bad reputation?

Ok, so the conclusion is

1: Breaking treatys bad for rep - trade, peace, MPP, ROP, other per-turn deals

2: Declaring war w/troops in enemy territory bad for rep

3: War will obviously hurt your rep with the enemy

4: Your rep will suffer with anyone signing MA/Embargo against you.

True.
2: Declaring war w/troops in enemy territory bad for rep
True.
3: War will obviously hurt your rep with the enemy
False. He won't like you, but it won't hurt your rep unless you do either of (1) or (2).
4: Your rep will suffer with anyone signing MA/Embargo against you.
False. Again, they won't like you, but no rep hit.

The civ you declare war against will be very unhappy. And never get over it. Usually. But if you sign alliances with others against your enemy your allies will have a good attitude toward you, until the alliance ends...

That's not true entirely. If you have an early age war with a civ and then over time maintain peace with him, do trade deals, get into MAs with him against other civ, bribe him a bit, then there is a chance that he will become polite with you.

Time and money(bribes in other words - more money than time) are a great healer.

I conquered Beijing, Shanghai, Canton and Chengdu in the early Middle Ages, yet Mao voted for me at the UN! He was also trading with the other candidate, but I gave him 100 gold at an appropriate time. :D
