Conjoined Twins Die After Separation

I would have to respect their choice.

Me too.

Live independently or die? I like to think the twins thought this through, and were prepared to die.

I think this operation descended into a question of euthanasia. Even if the twins survived the "surgical complications", and actually woke up and recovered with some brain function intact, there was no chance of Laden ever becoming a lawyer or Laleh becoming a journalist. They'd have had a very low quality of life, compared to before the operation.

I doubt they'd have wanted that.

I was really saddened by this news. When I hear of babies, I really don't care if the surgery fails.
But this one made me almost tear up when I found out. :(

They made their choice.

I think they should be buried together however, unless they specifically requested they be buried apart.

well they wanted to be separated and died trying. let's look at the alternative they didn't have the operation they would of live a while but died unhappy because they never did what they wanted.
death is inevitable it's the quality of life that matters

Thanks for clearing up Sean! And sorry for calling you a conservative (the word conservative is on top in my book of insults ;) )

You do have a point. If such a surchery has never ever succeeded before, statistics theory teaches us the chance of succes were not 50/50, but 0!

But, if the sisters asked to be separated "under all circumstances", there is no way speak of murder, let go torturous murder.

Another ethical issue comes up:
What to do in this situation:
a. Try to seperate them, chances of succes: 10%
b. Kill one, save the other: chance of 'succes': 60%

The doctors in S'pore gave them an estimate of like 5 to 25%. Still they were insistent on taking the chance.

Halfway thru the ops, when the doctors ran into problems, they asked a friend of theirs if they shld continue. The friend gave a confirmation, saying they'd wish it so.

Latest update, the twins had been flown back to Iran for burial IIRC after the proper Islamic rites in S'pore, attended by many sympathisers, plus representatives fr all the faiths (Christian, Buddhist, Daoist, Muslim etc).
