Hello all...

OK, If I have iron on my main continent and horses on another continent, how the heck to I connect them to make cossacks (yes, I'm Russian)

So again,

Main continent: has iron, but no horses
Secondary continent: has horses, but no iron.

How do I connect the horses to my capitol?

I never really played Civ III long enough to grasp this concept. I was a Civ II player up until a couple weeks ago.

Thanks,

:)

You need to be able to trade between your cities that have the resourses. If there is an ocean you need to be able to trade over oceans (Astronomy). Though you probably have astronomy in order to get to the other continent so I'm a bit confused as to how it doesn't just work.

Perhaps you need a harbor in coastal cities on both continents? That's how it worked in Civ 3. Unfortunately, in the few games I've played of 4 I haven't been expanding beyond my home continent so I haven't the personal experience to give an absolute answer.

You need Optics to travel ocean squares and Astronomy to get a trade network across it.

To put it simply, you need a trade route between the city with the horses and the city with the iron. This need not be direct. City Horse can have a trade route with City B, which has a trade route with City C, which has a trade route with City Iron. As mentioned already, certain techs are needed to trace a trade router through sea tiles.

The city screen lists all trade routes a city has - and there is a maximum number a city can have, which may be the problem.

Basically this is the answer, though there are exceptions. Galleys and work boats can travel ocean squares as long as they're within cultural borders.
