Thanks for taking the time to read this. I am relatively new to Civ IV (just bought the new Complete) Now on to my problem.

I set up a game on a large map with only 5 others and set the goal as conquest. I whipped two of my opponents (yes I have searched the map for anythingeven left over fishing boats) but they are still listed as being there and although I made peace with one the other is still listed as being at war.
They should both be eliminated shouldn't they???

How could I ever win if the opponents stay alive? Is it possible that I made a mistake in the initial set up?? Can these leaders be protected by the remaining opponents?

Oh I doubt I am ever going to beat the last two country leaders as I have looked at their cities and they are not only advanced far beyond me but they are loaded with strong troops and support groups like SAM people. One has started the Manhatten Project. --- I am in big trouble:eek:

Seriously if anyone can help an old man (just turned 70) out I would be very grateful.

The remaining civ probably has a city on an island somewhere. They may have accessed the island by expanded cultural borders from a continental city.

Another possible option is that at initial setup you checked the option that requires you to destroy all units of a particular civ to completely wipe out the civ. It's not a default, however, so you'd probably know if you pressed it.

Speaking from the advantage of my extra 5 years, a desperate AI on the brink of annihilation will cheerfuly found a city on a one-ice-tile island or in the depths of the polar regions, half the world away from its original lands. Other than by going into WorldBuilder, your only way to find the blighter is to explore everywhere, but absolutely everywhere. If the game says he still exists, then he really does, and if he can get somewhere then so can you - eventually.

where is that? Under advanced, options, game?

I just played a game where I wiped out Cyrus and I saw the whole map, but he was still around.

just make peace with them for their world map, which should show you where his last city is, then come back in 10 turns

That is what I have been trying to say. Even when I have looked at every piece of ground around I cannot find them

I COULDN'T FIND CYRUS EITHER.

Even after the game was over (I won a domination victory) and I could see the whole map.

Where is this mysterious 'initial setup' where you 'check the box that says you have to destroy every unit'. I've looked for it and can't find it.

Choose Single Player. Go to "Custom Game". Check "Require complete kills".

Confused, post your save so we can look at it.

Sorry but I gave up on that game I seem to have bit off more than I could chew. I plan to set up another game and follow some of the hints in Sisiutil's Strategy Guide.

I asked France to declare war on Peter (Russia) and he dissappeared and when I beat Julius Caesar (Rome) he also dissappeared. Just that bloomin' Incan Monte (or was he Aztec:crazyeye:) and he didn't seem to be going anywhere.

Oh -- I clean forgot to tell everyone I was playing on Warlord for the first time.

Thanks again for the input

I am off to start a new game now and will try to keep everyone posted as to how it's going
