Conquests Beta Patch Now Available

I do not mean to sound offending but I fail to see why you have taken up this cause to have the palace jump removed? For each argument you use to have it taken out myself or someone else can counter with a reason to keep it in.
Well, who knows why one takes up such causes. Like I said, ultimately, it don't matter much to me.

That said, I have yet to hear one even remotely compelling reason for keeping it in. I have no problem with people developing successful strategies (as I have said); I personally, in my own gameplay, draw the line (or at least try to) at taking advantage of a too-detailed knowledge of gameplay mechanics in the way that palace jumping does.

However, I doubt it will be patched, and I can live with it if it isn't. I hereby retire from the cause.

And no, you never sounded offending. No offense taken anywhere down the line...

As fast as you respond on the forums you must have a job similiar to mine :)

Anyhow, does anyone know if the update to the beta patch is on for the 10th? I thought Tavis would have posted something today but I've yet to see anything from him yet.

does anyone know when the official patch is to be released?

I used to think Palace Jump was a cheat until I read someone on a thread like this referring to the palace prebuild (in order to switch to a wonder) as a cheat. I love prebuilding and would hate to see it go.

It made me think about how we all have the same facts, but radically different interpretations.

Now I don't consider anything a cheat. They're just techniques, and you use what you like, and ignore what you don't.

jm chen: I consider nothing which is in the game rules to be a 'cheat' (and have argued about usage at this point with Yumbo before - he won't change his IMNSHO unhelpful usage), but how about trainer programmes, save game editors and the like? You don't consider their use cheating either?

Does this mean that reloading a game after an unfavorable result is not a cheat? (And I am not asking this rhetorically; I'd really like to hear your opinion).

You might argue that, with the save-game folder auto-saving the last five turns of the game as a built in feature of the game, Firaxis actually programmed the game to allow for this (much more so than the Palace Jump, and probably on a par with the Palace pre-build), and even encourage it, to some extent.

And if so, in a PBEM game, Am I cheating if I play my turn, don't like the results, reload the game, and play again?

Personally, I never reload games (well, almost never). And I never ever do Palace prebuilds (sorry Mr. Chen). I think we know where I stand on Palace Jumping, a topic from which I am permanently retired.

At least, reloading seems not be contrary to the intention of the developers, since there is this "preserve random seed" feature.

In principle, I agree with Yumbo, and do re-loads just in two cases: coming up on a very poor starting location (being in the middle of a huge jungle, for instance), or if I mistyped on the numeric keyboard the direction of one of my units by accident, which might result in my only early ship going lost "on treacherous waters" or during a combat my best attacker just moving next to the enemy, but not attacking him.
The rest is just fate and RNG
