Conquests features comprehensive survey

i don't think anyone would mind losing the extra attack point anyway, since i've never actually seriously used a defensive unit for offense. of course, its purpose is not obvious...

Thats becouse theres UU (Enkidu Warrior) have 1.2.1 ability same as Spearman so no need for double it. Well like Persians don't build Mediaval Infantry or Carthage Pikeman.
No need for double it?? Like the greeks that can't built pikemenBut did anyone calculate the cost of upgrading an hoplite to musketman? It is double than upgrading a pikemen to musketman, and this counts for all units that can be upgreated. So for some civs the period of upgrading the army is twise than the others. And not to mention that even thow Hoplites/Pikemen have the same abilities 1.3.1,it never seems to work.Knights for example never loose a battle against Hoplites, while the pikemen seems to be a pretty good defending unit. This is something that i didn't like from the start, and actually i can't understand why they did make this change.

Is this a fact or a "Spearman vs Tank" syndrom ? :)
And actually I think it's normal that the cost of upgrading from hoplite to musketman is twice as much than that of upgrading from pikeman to musketman...
After all, the hoplite is "in stead of" the spearman.
So you have to look at it the other way round ; the hoplite is a spearman on steroids, not an unupgradable pikeman. :)

I agree,i dont think that they sould be as powerfull as the pikemen. But why not have the possibility(The greeks)to built pikemen?Anyway i have posted a new thread for this,if you are interested.

Port, the Sumerian UU upgrades to the Pike. It's Swordsmen you'll need to build by hand.

Had old wonders gotten any of the new treats?

I mean... Did Lighthouse, by example, became expansionist and seafaring? or Hanging Gardens agricultural and religious?

Keep civilized

Yes, dguichar, they did. For example, the Great Lighthouse is now Expansionistic, Seafaring, and Commercial.

In CIV3 and PTW I remember that the AI would never want peace so soon, no matter how badly you were beating them. And you almost never could get them to give up cities.

That's not true. When the AI went to war with me (in both games) after 10/15 turns of "beating", he normaly ask for a chat for whanting peace. Allright it never apperes it to give his own cities, but if you go to redelling the trate, I sometimes I can revendiceite 1/2/3 cities tops (of him of course)!

looks of the nukes haven"t been changed, but there use has, the AI no longer attacks the biggest cities first!!!
also, was the start animation already there?
Also wanted to say the new Specialists, especially cops are really usefull and make it possible to get something out of cities that would otherwise have absolutely no productive value, Engineers are also quite usefull, especially on a wonderbuilding race...

Aeldrik,
Does the AI actually use nukes on anything other than cities now?
I've got a Japanese invasion fleet heading for the US in the WW2 scenarion that dearly hopes that the answer is "no"...:cringe:

I have not bought the game yet but I would care to know if there are any "ninja" like units that can only be seen by other certin unitts, units in sential fourm extra...and if they are usably in the randomly generated games or in just certin senarious. Thanks in advance.

Yes there are.
Ninjas are in the Sengoku conquest but you have other equivalents in other conquests and you can mod them if you want.
They have the stealth attack ability meaning they can pick their target ina pack (ie a king unit !) and they are invisible. But some special units (warrior monks in Sengoku) can spot them.

The first post of this thread (updated a couple weeks before the game actually came out) has the line:

"bonus on amphibious assaults (X 2) : marines"

I have not been able to find anything about this in the editor, the civilopedia, or in the forum. Can anyone verify or refute this claim?

Ditto--- about the attack and defense values for armies being greater than the sum of its parts and enhanced by building the military academy.

(Sorry if someone already mentioned this --don't have time to read through 18 pages worth of material.)

Are you sure you can't upgrade units that have been loaded into an Army? This was one of the major failings of Armies in Civ3/PTW.
I have yet to hear of anyone who approves of this limitation, so it seems odd that it hasn't been addressed in Conquests.

Although there is an argument for having it this way and that is that it ensures that Armies have to be rebuilt every age or so rather than just recycling the already existing ones throughout the game, the downside is that you lose the loaded units when you disband an outdated Army --this can be problematic if you have a very powerful, expensive unit loaded (or even an unbuildable one as in a scenario). At least unloading units should be an option (which essentially amounts to the same thing as upgrading them while in an Army, only less convenient).
