Considering Spore is such a failure, do you think it is still worth a subforum?

Oh, I think we'll see tons of expansions before a sequel.

I agree. Remember the Command & Conquer and The Sims series? One expansion after another, kinda like a conveyor belt.

I had The Sims series in mind. C&C games tend to have just one expansion most of the time.

The upside is Spore might get more complete (not expanded) as the expansions come out. The downside is the EA will probably charge no less than 20-30 USD per expansion. Nice tactic there: release an unfinished game and then charge customers further to 'complete' it. Worst case scenario: players will be pretty much forced to buy them or give up the online component of the game (similar to World of Warcraft expansions: buy or lag behind).

As for the subforum, well, the ones that exist beside these share the similarity of being about reasonably deep strategy games (don't know about Railroads, but it was at least made by Sid Meier). Spore is as deep as a puddle, and calling it strategy is like calling my kindergarten doodles artistic masterpieces comparable to the Mona Lisa.

However, this debate needs a poll to really reflect how many people want the forum to remain and how many want it to disappear. :p

They did? I just lumped them all together unless they had a 2 or 3 in the title. :p

As for whether or not this subforum should continue to exist, I suppose there will always be Spore enthusiasts no matter how bad many feel the game to be. So despite my own lack of enthusiasm for the game, I don't begrudge the fans who have a place here to share their gaming experiences.

There are many different games in that list, with a few expansions, a lot of bundles and unofficial mission packs.

Back to topic, I have nothing against the fans themselves, but the question is: why does Spore belong in a community like CivFanatics? Is it merely because it has a stage named Civilization or because it shows the progress of a species (more than a civ) across the ages, no matter how barebones and lackluster it might be along the whole process?

I don't know. Fans do have the right to a forum where they can discuss the game, but, and this is just my opinion, this doesn't seem to be the place for it, given Spore's characteristics. Perhaps it'll get better in the future, with 3 expansions slapped on it, and be worthy of its place here. But in the end, again, this is my personal opinion and have no authority nor say in this matter. Whether the subforum stays or goes changes nothing for me. I'm much more active in the main ones.

No Command and conquer game other than RA1 has gotten more than one xpac. EA bought Westwood before CNC Zero hour

After the original C&C, there were so many C&C releases (including C&C clones) that I quit buying any of them. I mean who wants 1,000 similar games? That's just overkill to the max IMO.

I see what you mean. Spore isn't part of the Civilization or Sid Meier "family" at all.

Yes, there will be xpacs. Unless you have your head stuck in a Soup Can, you probably should know this by now. It's a comon thing

Well, I play both games because I roleplay things, and the massive scale of each game is quite similar.

I wanna thank the mod gods for keepin this open. Now I can confirm what Ive heard through local back channel here, where informed sources vent in from across the world.
We civ fans are formost a world class focus group on strategy games if there ever was one. Opinion heres beats the corrupt sub'sid'uarys online reveiw companies so If you guys say it sucks then so be it. I trust you the majority

I just saved money man!. Dam EA sucks. They got sued for not payin whats due, 30 million plus intrest.
One letter from a distressed wife of high ranking employee revealed hubby was bogged down on a 6 day 12 hour day work week that lead to family and his personal health rapid decline.
Mind you try working in a mine and see what 20 days straight of 12hrs isolated can do to the mind ;)) Still for a MIT computer geek thats pritty absurd and it shows the moral these guys had when they sqeezed out this collosal turd :D

Im also delighted that the one who ruined civ4 and ran to EA, Sorren 'I have a 3d dream'" Johnson, brought the bad stink there way like he dished Civ 4 some nasty over-bloated gameplay
Makes you respect civ3, going strong all these years on such little pay
