CONTACT! Team Doughnut

All points alert!
Foreign Curragh sighted off the coast of Athens!

Contact achieved with Team Doughnut.

Foreign Minister Fe3333ay and all would-be diplomats – warm up your engines! This is the real thing.

I’m going to hang on to our save until we decide what we want to do.
At this point I don’t think we need to request an extension. We’ve still got (as of this wrtting) over 23 hours.

I’ll send as soon as the team agrees we are ready.

Let’s go!

What we know:

We have Bronze and Iron working - they do not!

They built an early curragh - apparently!

can you be as exact as possible as to what direction in came from? I'm assuming NE

Unfortunately - I don't have any of that info. It was just sitting there when I opened the save.
After looking at the screenshot - you'll know as much as I do.

Suicide curragh seems unlikely (esp. from the south) - most logically, it came from the NE.

We just received this message (to my personal e-mail) from Team Doughnut...

Greetings to the people of MIA, from the people of Doughnutia. This
communique is just a quick advisory that a curragh bearing our flag
has sighted your fine city of Athens and approached, to open a dialog.
Our Foreign Minister is feverishly drafting our formal greeting and
commencement of diplomatic relations.

Sincerely, DaveShack
Doughnutia Turnplayer

Woo-hoo!!! Let the real game begin!

I just checked the tech costs in F6 - they have pottery (of course) and writing, but nothing else available to trade. They went for writing first, so they will clearly beat us to Philosophy - I wonder if they went for Code of Laws before Philosophy to try to pull off the slingshot. If they did, they will make it, and they will be in Republic very early.

I'm guessing they will not trade us writing at any price until they get Philosophy, and I don't think we have much interest in Pottery right now, so I don't see any trades happening.

They are going to be a force with the early Republic. On the other hand, they are making it cheaper for us to research that path, so combined we could pull way ahead of the other continent. Also, an ultra-early Republic is a mixed blessing - the unit costs could eat them alive making the extra income worthless.

We have researched the "war-monger" techs - they have no units available other than warriors - perhaps an early strike would be successful before they use Republic to pull away?

Just musing... the bottom line is I think we should be very friendly now, but not make any deals just yet (unless they want to pay us an exorbitant amount of gpt for Bronze Working). Other than that, we can continue setting up our territory as we planned.

Horray!! But we still need to meet more friends.

Chamnix, I'm tired of thanking you for your insight, so please don't take it personally that I don't here..

I think we should have an appointed ambassador within these 21 (and counting) hours. He/She (are there any women on our team I wonder?) shouldn't enter into any trades yet, and certainly offer the olive branch. They need horses for their UU.

We could certainly be a very powerful continent.

I'd like to see us play the save in about the same amount of time as always so that the other teams aren't tipped off that it is we who were contacted. Everyone agree?

Definately... If it takes dougnut 48 hours then it takes us 48 hours people are going to know whats up

Time to party!!!!! Get out the cinamin tonight the doughnuts are on me!! [party]

Ok - I sent the turn - approximatly 7 hours after reciving it.
Shouldn't raise any eyebrows.

Also - I sent this quick response to Daveshack
Salutations from MIA!

Our Foreign Ministry team is also now working to craft a proper hello.

But from one turn-taker to another - looking forward to working with you!

All the best,
General_W, current President of MIA

I have no desire or intention of undercutting the Foreign Ministry - but I felt it would be a little odd to ignore DaveShack's friendly note. So I tried to keep mine in the same vein as his. Hopefully I succeeded.
If not, Fe, appoint me my penance, and I will try to re-earn your good graces.

Well we just shared with them what they shared with us...
We now know they have a foriegn minister, and they know we have a foriegn ministry team

anything they can do we can do better :mischief:

Perhaps we should let them know fe is our foreign minister? I'll do that in the next few hours unless someone has an objection; after all, this will save us a step.

Doughnut Diplomat is Emp.napoleon ... I have started an Embassy thread ... everything is to be posted there ... too confusing ... lets start with what we know in summary from the meeting
