I was wondering what was the latest anyone ever made contact with a civilization? The game I am playing, I did not make contact with anyone until 330 AD, large map, acrhipeligo (sp).

I, the Romans, found myself on a large island and built all over it. By the time my galleys safetly made it across the oceans, it was 330 AD and I contacted 2 other civis, about 5 turns later, found the Americans and everyone on their continent. Found a small island of Babylonians a few turns later.

Of course with my huge island all too myself, I found myself with zero, nada, ziltch luxuraries:mad: I do have 4 iron, 3 horse, 4 coal, 3 rubber and 4 oil. Not sure about aluminum or uranium yet since I have not gotten that far. Notice anything missing? Yep, no saltpeter to go with the lack of luxuries.

I was first in the way of score at the time of discovery, just ahead of the French but behind in techs.

In one of my games on a huge map, w/ continents, 80% water, me and my half of the world didn't meet the other half until late middle age, when I sent some suicidal caravels across the ocean. It was on monarch. I think the year was around 900 AD.
