Continent of remaining Civ?

What continent should the remaining Civ be from?

The New Civ thread and this thread have kinda bled into the same topic. I figured it was better to post here. Based on the debate over what was Central America, I thought about how to divide everything so it made the most sense. I was originally going to put the American Southwest into the Mesoamerican category, but I like straight lines and I wasn't in the mood to add yet another division. I also considered splitting South America into Andes and Amazon, but I also got tired of dividing.

The only thing I was uncertain about was where to put Ethiopia. I decided with the Straits of Aden and the ties to Christianity and Judaism, it had more in common with the middle east than Africa.

The sections are:
North America - 2
Mesoamerica - 2
South America - 1
Western Europe - 5
Mediterranean - 5
Eastern Europe - 3
Sahel/Sahara - 1
Middle East - 6
Southern Africa - 0
Steppes - 1
Indian Subcontinent - 1
East Asia - 4
Oceania - 1

Based on this list, I do think Africa south of the equator needs a civ. I also think this indicates that making India one civ has made a diverse area poorer, but that's beside the point.

I certainly would have divided it different, but I applaud you for actually doing something to help this move along, while the rest of us bickered over the political regions of the Americas :p

And I will be preserving the other thread's intended purpose in the OP, even of discussion has deviated a bit.

Nice work.

Lets have Zulu now and in september a DLC with Brazil, Portugal and Gran Colombia. Everybody will be happy.

Yeah, I figured reasonable minds can differ about the division, but I figured it wasn't entirely fruitful to rely on geographical boundaries if it was possible to find a cultural divide (really a combination of cultural and ecological). In reality, the Mediterranean focused on classical antiquity so it should really just be Rome, Greece, Carthage, and Byzantium. But, like I said, I like squares so Spain got sucked in.

Anyway, I just wanted to do something different. I could probably think of other ways to divide it. It depends on what time period you're relying on when stereotyping a region. Certainly, Tunis, Algeria, and Morocco would be with Songhai as a generic North Africa were I not thinking of the classical era (and were it easier to draw squares that included Rome but not Tunis ;) ).

Indeed, but let's not delve too far there, lest we begin debating about the divides of the "eras" of history :p

Does all this lead you to some conclusion as to what continent the remaining civ is from?

If I had to fire off a guess, either Europe or Asia.

Albeit, I'm hoping for Africa or South America, but that seems like too much to ask for :p

Yea I voted Asia actually and think we will get an Asian civ. But there is so much opportunity, can't wait to see what we do get.

If not Tibet who? Burma would be interesting. Some people are saying it will be the Zulu, but why secrecy over the Zulu. Kongo would be worth a secret. I know you have been talking about them forever.

Well, Tibet would be my preference of an Asian civ. Majapahit or the kin, if we count Oceania in there.

More likely, though, would probably be a West Asian civ. Though IDK who that would be.

It doesn't lead me to conclude anything about what it will be, but I think it does demonstrate that it should be a Civ south of the equator. However, I want to point out that I didn't try to test this just for the new civs, not all civs.

I still think the smart bet is on the Zulu because they've always been in the game, but I'm not remotely confident enough to make a strong prediction.

Yea I made a signature bet with TheKingOfBigOz about if the Zulu were in. I bet they wouldn't, so its in my favor if they don't get in :p. There are a lot of civs I like in the world that I wouldn't mind in/love in. Kongo is one too. I don't think the Zulu would be in for several reasons though like you mentioned Nokmirt why would the Zulu be kept secret instead of another more interesting civ?

The Majapahit or a Middle Eastern Civ maybe if it wasn't Tibet. Thats what I am thinking at this moment.

I'm going to vote for Asia - simply because I think the Khmer really deserve inclusion, but are usually overlooked or forgotten about. My gut instinct says that the last civ will probably be Sweden though, because of the importance of the scenarios in designing the expansion pack. Not that they're a bad choice - they'll probably be the first civ I play as if they are included. I just think that this expansion was a bit too Europe-heavy this time around, at least for my liking. Hopefully the future DLC will give us some more civs from the rest of the world.

why would the Zulu be kept secret instead of another more interesting civ?

The thing is, I think to the lay person who doesn't know history, people are more likely to think "Zulu, hey cool!" than "Majahapit, hey cool!" To them, having African spearmen shouting "ZULU!!!!!" is awesome.

They could also just be keeping it a secret to keep us speculating no matter how boring the answer is. In reality, if they wanted to keep a shocker secret, it should have been the Huns (although I suppose that's difficult with the box art).

IDK, before learning more about history, I probably would have wanted a Malagasy, Swahili, or Zimbabwe civ.

Not exactly . If they planned to include Brazil as the 9th civ, using the same standards that they would use for choosing any other civilization, then they should have predicted that this choice would be more surprising than including Majapahit or almost any other ancient Civ which hasn't been included already .
