Continuing a Multiplayer Save as a Single Player Game

I was playing a game with a friend and doing really well, but my friend got annoyed with his apparently bad city placement and did not want to continue the game. So I figured I would just continue the game as a single player game, something I had often done in Civ V. But so far, I have been unsuccessful. Upon loading the game, I cannot replace my friends slot with an AI player and can therefore not start the game.

Has anyone else found themselves in this situation? Is there a workaround?

Thanks.

I would suspect that it's disabled to disallow cheating in MP, loading up the save on another computer etc

I was able to load a game in multiplayer and just start it by clicking ready, although it did complain about migrating the host. Your particular game may have been set to human only?(I know mine wasn't)

Another option you could try would be to move the save file from the multiplayer save folder, to the single player save folder and try loading it normally as a single player game. -This however caused me to STOP playing the Japanese I was playing and take over as team 1, (Rome) and resume playing from the position my friend was in.

/my games/Civ6/saves/ has 2 folders, multiplayer and single player simply copy the save over from multi to single and try loading it. (again, will probably only work if your "player 1)
