Control Definition Error?

Since I installed BNW, I keep getting error messages such as these on startup.

attachment.php

I'll click to close, and then another one pops up, referring to a different directory. This repeats about 20 times.

Whenever I load up a game I get a new batch of these messages. Some menu buttons don't work either. For example, when I get to the menu and go to "other" the back button stops working.

I tried verifying local data, running in directx9, even reinstalling but nothing seems to work. I don't see how it could be an issue with my computer, as the game ran fine before BNW/patch and I haven't (to my knowledge) tampered with anything, but as you can probably tell, I'm no expert.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did Civ run before the BNW release for you?
Do you both own G&K?

I'm getting exactly the same thing. No amount of cache integrity checks or re-installs helps. I'm also playing with NO mods. Very strange. Been doing this ever since the patch.

Do you see this file:

\Assets\UI\Styles.xml

If so, open it in a text editor, and look for the presence of the following line (It's very close to the bottom of the doc):

<MenuTopTreatment Anchor="C,T" AnchorSide="O.O">
<Image Anchor="C,B" Offset="0,-33" Texture="Assets/UI/Art/Controls/topframe.dds" Size="512,128" />
</MenuTopTreatment>

Is this present?

it is there for me and i have exactly the same problem? what do you suggest i do?

Just getting to the main menu I get the following error screens. Note, this isn't all of them. I got tired of doing screen captures. I stopped at 10. There's like 20.

Sorry, the pics didn't come out as clear as I hoped, but you'll get the gist of it.

This is a fairly clean win 7 pro 64 install on a new haswell build. So shouldn't be any issues. (shouldn't being the key word :P )

I still can't figure it out.

Furthermore, once you start a game, there's even more error messages. More than 20. :mad:

Where would I find the /assets/ui/styles.xml file?

aside from the error once you click them all away the game doesnt seem to run any differently like it isnt affected by the errors as far as i am aware

Where would I find the /assets/ui/styles.xml file?

You need to locate Steam on your computer (somewhere like C:\Program Files\Steam), then under the local files there should be your games. Then within the Civ5 folder there should be a folder called expansion_2 (or similar), and within that one you should be able to find that folder.

Mr. Shirk just wants to know if the mentioned lines are in that file or not ;).
In case it was missing the fix would PROBABLY be to add these lines (and depending on other details probably also other missing files; but onyl the devs know), but it seems that this is not the issue.
Please confirm if or if not these lines are present.

the lines ARE there without me adding them yet the error persists so something else is probably the cause of it

I have G&K and BNW. I'm pretty sure that this was caused by the last patch, but I didn't run the game at any point between the patch and BNW release.

I do have that line of text in my styles.xml. I'll post it for comparison.

And the game still runs and single player is playable, but certain aspects of the UI just don't function. For example when I go to "multiplayer" and then "hotseat" I get a couple more control definition error messages and then get a screen that looks like this...

Spoiler :

...with the "back" and "host game" buttons not doing anything when I click them.
