Caught this on my FB News Feed this morning, along with this and this

Whaddya think, ladies and gentlemen? What, with the Robocop reboot screwing the pooch, whazzup with the sequels (X-Men, Spiderman, Captain America, comic adaptations, tweener book entries, et al) for the coming summer/ Fall "Blockbuster" Movie season?

Add pros, cons, predictions and anticipations and polite but spirited debate...

Well, there was that "Nymphomaniac" 3 hour long movie about... I don't know, a nymphomaniac?

I'm not big on superheroes, nor do I enjoy going to the movies (most of the time the experience gets ruined by a jerk or another), so this gets a big "meh" from me.

I really wish I watched more movies though! I'm just too busy. And I did like some superhero movies, there's just 1 coming out every tuesday.. and they haven't made an aquaman movie yet? The injustice is too great for me to want to be a part of this.

Guardians of the Galaxy looks so, so awesome. I cannot wait for that.

The new Spider-Man, well, it is just is not as good as the Raimi/Maguire one. I mean the new guys is a dufus, and not in the loveable dufus way Peter Parker should be. Is one of his super powers super blown-dry hair?

I am reserving judgment on the X-Man one.

Interestingly, only Guardians of the Galaxy is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is the cohesive collection of interlocking movies centered mainly around the Avengers.

@BvBPL: yeah, the Spider Man reboot was a downer... Guardians is sort of how they get the Avengers off of Earth... and it looks like great time.

Does anyone have other films to discuss? Anything else anybody's excited about?

I want to see Muppets Most Wanted. That looks incredible.

I will also probably see Captain America: Winter Solider. I don't necessarily have high hopes for it, but I will probably see all the same.

Looks like a damn good year for Disney properties.

I'm going beyond the summer/fall remit but in november Interstellar comes out.
Anything done by Christopher Nolan is bound to be superb.

All those movies look boring in my view :(

Ultra CGI production does not really help, and it seems some view it as a substitute for a plot, good actors, or just about everything else too.

I'm looking forward to Capt America and X-Men. I didn't care that much for the Spiderman reboot. Didn't like any of the actors.

I doubt it will be any good, but anyway.. Release the Kraken.

I feel like I'm among the minority that really enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Man. And I also have somewhat abnormal anticipation for Noah. But nothing can top my anticipation for Left Behind, adaptation of the popular evangelical novel, starring, wait for it...

NICOLAS CAGE
:woohoo:

I literally can't imagine a more perfect premise for a film.

I actually am one of the few people who think that Cage has some good movies (along with some utterly horrible ones, of course)...

I never liked his action roles (ConAir, face-off etc). He did deserve the oscar for the Leaving Las Vegas film, moreover the 8mm one was pretty good as well. I heard good things about Lord of War (but have not yet seen it).

I think most people acknowledge that Nic Cage has been really good in good movies. I would also make the point that he's hilarious in bad movies. No matter the quality of his performance, I find him consistently very entertaining, and by that metric he seriously might be one of my favorite actors.

That being said, I fully expect Left Behind to be a bad movie. And having been raised Evangelical with a deep enjoyment of the sort of kitsch that culture often produces, I'm ecstatic.

I haven't seen the new spiderman movie(s). The previous one indeed was again a 2000s trilogy. I suppose the first two were ok; the second was quite cool due to Doc Oc :)

The actor playing spiderman was not really anything good in the 2000s trilogy either, but i heard the new spiderman is worse.

Why did they reboot Spiderman anyway? Didn't the upside down kissing spiderman versions of the movies just couple out a couple years ago? Or am I getting old?

Basically, the original plan was to make Spider-Man 4, but that fell through. Marvel sold Sony the rights to make Spider-Man movies on the condition they continue to do so, and they make a lot of money, so they want to keep their hands on the cash cow, so the reboot was the best option on the table.

I really wish I had more time to watch movies... My mental "to watch" list is so outdated that movies that are on it have already been REBOOTED. And that's just not right.
