COTM13 - Not able to save end of game

Did you lose by conquest? When you do, there isn't a civilization to go back to, so the game just quits. For conquest losses, you have to submit a save from the turn prior to your loss. (There's a checkbox on the upload form.) I'm not sure whether an autosave will be accepted, or whether you'll have to actually load up the autosave and make a normal save out of it before trying to upload.

Sorry you lost. :(

Did you lose by Conquest? If so there is no option for further play because your civ no longer exists. You have to open up the last Autosave, save it manually, and submit that, selecting the "The turn before I was conquered" option in the popup on the submission form. It's all explained in the notes on that page.

[EDIT] Cross posted with Renata. No, an autosave is not accepted, as it exceeds the permitted file size for uploads to the site.

@AlanH

since this is the first time I am participating in this, am I correct that i only need to submit the final save and none in between. Well, I hope so, else I :smoke: since I did not keep any saves in between. And I am well into the IA.

Under normal circumstances, the end-of-game save is all you need.

We ask you to keep a few intermediate saves until the results are published, in case we have any query on the progress of your game. 1000 BC would be needed for QSC anyway so we prefer that you keep that plus saves around 10 AD and 500 AD.

It can also be helpful for your own sake to keep saves at critical points in the game such as change of government, era changes, major war events, so that you can go back and take screenshots or retrieve other information for the spoiler posts.

A further point is that it could be dangerous to rely on Autosaves to start a new session after a break. Playing any other game such as a quick personal game or an SG *could* wipe your autosave out. So unless you are playing in a single session, manual saves give better security between sessions.

Disk space is cheap, and you don't have to keep them long, so why not save often? One option is to use the amazing CivAssist2 utility to record a complete archive of your game. At the end, you can then use it to create those cool animated minimaps showing your territorial progress as a movie.
