Like many of the modern european nations, the Netherlands emerged from rule by many different nations and factions. Modern Holland formed when the rule of the Spanish empire was gradually overthrown. First the northern provinces, and later the southern ones, rebelled against the Spanish Hapsburg rule. With the nobles working together, the Netherlands, as the United Provinces, began to grow in importance.

Developing into a major european power, the Netherlands had a strong navy, allowing the establishment of colonies and a large trading empire. This was not to last forever, as the Dutch fleet eventually conceded to the English.

As you play as the Dutch, will you be able to rise to sustain the Netherlands as a powerful empire? Will you develop as a major trading empire, buying protection with the value of the gold coin? Will your navy banish all those that near her waters?

- Gold: start the game with 150 gp
- Units: start the game with 3 curraghs and 1 extra settler
Note: the curraghs are placed on either side of the starting position, 2 on the eastern tile and 1 on the western one

Predator Class Equalisers
- You thought you knew all secrets of Agriculture... but you can only grow tulip bulbs -or other kinds of vegetables, as it has been suggested: in any case, they are not edible
The Agricultural trait has been removed, but you still start with Pottery and Alphabet

Hee, I can see my hometown in the pic. It's the somewhat largish purple dot thats slightly in the top half and about a quarter from the right. It's called Leeuwarden.

Expected you would live in Fryslân. Since I always was wondering, are/were you a member of the redbad sociaty?
My home town is in it too (Tijnje), so is the city that gave me my nic, I grew up there.

I lived there too for a while (early 1999 to summer 2000), but Wassenaar is outside the pic... I made sure you will find it in the game though

Well... the choice was between there and Noordwijk.

The apartment in Wassenaar was surprisingly cheap and the landlady was really very nice.
But if you meant that the place is not the most exciting in the world, then you are probably right...

Oh. Then you'll have to rename Noordwijk too

I lived in Capelle a/d Ijssel and in Rosmalen, but I'm sure both cities won't come up in the game

What i meant to say about wassenaar is that its full of filthy rich decandent pricks, many of whom are too stupid to create their own succes but inherrited it from their parents.

Of course, that is just the picture i get from what i see in the media. I have never been there myself. So maybe there are normal people in wassenaar as well
