COTM33 Pre-Game Discussion

Stick with us kiddo and in a couple of years will have you playing monarch

Actually, check out a couple of strategy articles in the war academy and there's a great thread that I'm looking for that's in the Sucession Game Forum, title something like ...TRAINING GAME... - there's about 80 pages of great information, techniques & strategy

I think the Predator handicap should be you can only build workers, settlers, an occasional ship, and Conquistadors.

Tried more or less that in a SG a while back - it probably wouldn't make the game greatly difficult still, even at predator.

I'm in for AA+conquistador conquest, denyd. I take it you mean conquest as in the condition, not the level of play right? I'm not starting on it right now so I'll just follow in with the diff you picked ;)

Edit for pat: About the training games thingy: look for the military academy articles (thinking about bamspeedy's and the other articles on growth), the Ghengis Khan training game, and in general the other 5 star threads out there also are worth reading. Ask questions, try to get involved in succession games with better people than you are - you will get the occasionnal rant, but you also will get better.

for this game - settle on the coast, build a warrior and a couple of curraghs and research pottery. If you find a better spot for havesettler factory, pop out a settler as soon as you can and have the new town build a granary and settlers, else just build a granary there. It's not a great factory, but 10 turns is better than 20 ;)

Beorn: Ok you're on - Conquest Victory condition using only AA Units & Conquistadors.

Only one question is it fastest win or highest Jason score to determine the winner?

Also thanks for remembering who the author of the training thread was.

I say race it for fastest finish, predator diff.

@denyd : I'm in for this challenge with only AA units and Conquistadors allowed :)

I prefer fastest finish date as method to determine the winner.

Predator is OK for me, but Open is acceptable too. (can we decide on this soon ? I like to start playing this weekend (Saturday and/or Sunday)).

I won't be able to do predator as I've already started on open. Fastest finish it is, any other takers?

FYI, there's a lot of information available on this site (and in the Spoilers) to really help you improve your game play. Take a look at the GOTM Reference Thread in this forum for links on all sorts of articles. And Good Luck!

Fastest finish conquest - open it is.. I will start on this week. The Conquestadores or what ever they are ignore terrain IIRC so on a 3 bil yr old map that may come in handy.. so does this mean no knights/cav/MI?

Yeah, and once you have conquistadors, no more boats, so watch out !

All you can build then is Caravels, so you better have all the galleys built that you'll need.

Just to ease the fears of those out there, I'm pretty far in and have yet to find any 1 tile islands.

hmm.. you are taking away my Knights... taking away my MDI's.. taking away my ability to transport lots of units.. and no Cavs... sheesh did you go down the list of things I normally do so you could take them away? :P

You can still make cities :p

And you are still dealing with a Regent AI, which is somewhere between a rock and whipped cream on the IQ scale :D
