How are your Ottomans getting along in their wet world?

My first attempt at a GOTM, I like the Ottomans and thought I would give it a shot since I normally play on Monarch level.

Founded Istanbul on starting location, worked on Alphabet tech (which in retrospect probably wasn't the best starting tech), but it paid off later on.

Founded Erdine to the west for the Spices, contected them to Istabul.
Founded Bursa to the southeast near the mountain range, by the cow.

Sent my curragh out to the west of starting island and headed north along the coast.

Met Civ #1, #2, and #3; and settled a couple more cities along the way. I did notice I was more than a few techs behind, so I started to work on the republic line of the tech tree. When I reached CoL I was able to barter with the three Civs to catch myself up and pad the treasury.

Got Philo and Republic as the free tech (revolution & change to republic), traded some more techs and met Civ #4. Also settled a city by an Iron source. Civ #3 got increasingly hostile and made their second demand, which I denied and they declared war. No sign of fleets arriving yet. They are currently involved in a war with Civ #4, not sure how long, but the lands they have are close to each other.

Reached Middle Ages, free tech was Feudalism... around 10 AD - ish.

Not sure how good I am doing, but I am in the lead of the score & culture, #2 in power currently... but I only met 4 Civs so far, my curraghs still search for new Civs.

Conquest, looking for a space race (love scientific civs).

I set up the capitol as a settler factory and sent my warriors off exploring. Once I got alpha, I popped out a couple of curragh cities and sent the little buggers out looking for the world. Went for the republic slingshot and got republic about 1450 or so, waited to pop out one more settler and revolted.

1625, i got a message saying that another civ built the collosus.

2nd city plopped down next to teh spices and started building warriors and a barracks - has made several spears and will start building warriors for an upgrade to swords.

Have a lot of land, so set up several more granaries to pop out workers and settlers to fill up my big, oddly shaped island.

met all but 2 civs and traded for a bunch of techs one of them had to get into the MA in... 800 BC? Got engineering.

Am about 10 turns from the lighthouse - I think it's safe to give up MM.

QSC stats: 12 Cities, 1 granary, 3 lib, 1 barracks, 29 Citizens, 11 workers, 3 warriors, 1 spear, 4 curraghs.

My second GOTM and first spoiler, i think I will make a more concerted effort to play and write spoilers from now on. I didn't take too many notes this time so the details will be brief.

Open class, goal diplomatic victory.

Settled in place and built a couple of exploring warriors before building granary for the 4-turn factory.

Research was pottery, alpha, writing, col then philo, got republic for free, revolted and became a republic in 1225bc.

Unfortunately despite some generous gifts I still had quite a number of techs to get in AA after getting republic and ended up researching most of them myself. Middle Age was eventually reached in 650bc.

My lands in 1000bc:

My first GOTM and first spoiler. ;)

I've nearly the exact same city placement as Aigburth, only I placed Aydin (in the east) one square down so that it's possible to send ships through. Cleared out a square of wetlands up north and did the same thing there, so in effect I can travel around the continent by ship 20x faster than anyone. Also settled the eastern mountanous area to secure the iron and stop others from settling there since I don't want to try uprooting armies and cities from a mountain range.

Tried for the Great Lighthouse while I was picking up Literature, failed, went for Great Library instead and got it, which shot me into the Middle Ages in two turns. Been busy fighting hordes of barbs, and had one civ declare war on me a while ago but didn't see much of him yet. Switching to republic soon and finishing the city improvements, then I'm basically gonna sit tight and go for a diplomatic victory.

I also placed a couple of cities on the island due west, for military base purposes mainly.

I founded Istanbul on the spot and saw the obvious settler factory. Since this is an archipelago map, I started by researching pottery assuming that the likelihood of trading for it would be very small. Build order warrior-granary-warrior. Thereafter the capital built nothing but settlers for a long time. I finished the Republic slingshot in 1425BC and revolted immediately, drawing a four-turn anarchy.

By 1000BC I had met three other civs. They seemed quite backwards so I made them a few gifts and they all became polite. No one had gotten around to map making yet.

QSC stats
14 cities pop 31
22 workers
2 warriors, 2 archers, 3 curraghs
1 granary
Two granaries, several libraries and the FP were being built at this time as I had gotten up to a decent number of workers. Istanbul, of course, continued to pump out cities. My city layout at this point was pretty close to that of other people.

In 850BC I met another civ who actually seemed to have some research capacity. I traded her for Polytheism and shortly after for Construction. Another civ gave me map making and I entered the ME in 775BC. I brought everyone but the one civ who was to be my first target into the new era with me, in the hopes of getting at least some research out of the Monarch AI.

Given this big oddly-shaped island with lots of grass, I am tempted to try a science game for a change. Not my usual style.

Got royally assraped by the civ due north of the starting location, because, well, I was not paying attention to my military mostly. Lost two cities, could have recovered but it would be such a long process, sooooo... next time. ;)

I will have to get going to get this game completed on time, but anyway here's how it went at the beginning.

Istanbul was founded in place. First builds were warrior, warrior, granary.

Civs\
I found the borders of the Byzantines with an exploring warrior but greedily tried to pop a hut. Consequently the warrior was killed by the ensuing barbs and it seemed to take an eternity to eventually make contact. I also lost many many curraghs, either from suicide crossings or barbs galley attacks. Contacts were:
1325bc Netherlands
1000bc Scandinavia
900bc Byzantine
750bc France
730bc Persia
690bc England

Techs
I researched Pottery, Alphabet, Writing, Code of Laws and Philosophy, getting the Republic slingshot in 1250bc. I had a 3 turn anarchy.
I also researched Literature, Map Making, and Currency, and I got Warrior Code, The Wheel, Cerimonial Burial, Iron working, Horseback Riding, Mysticism, Construction and Polytheism from trading. I entered the MA in 670bc after completing Currency and received Monotheism as my free tech.

I have spent the AA exploring as much as possible with my curraghs. I have also tried to expand as much as possible. My builds have been a granary in Istanbul, one barracks for reg spearmen coastal city defence and libraries in all of my core cities. I have a very weak military, and most of the upkeep is for workers which are developing the land nicely.

I can see this one going towards a Space Ship if I have time or a cop out Diplo.
