10 Rivals, but they are Regent rivals on a 40% land map (they expand slowly compared to higher levels). Are you crowded, or are you finding plenty of room and easy prey? And a bonus question: have you noticed anything a little 'out of place' with the AI? :mischief:

They never declared war on me, and I only got two demands, of which one I rejected and was false and another just demanded a small gold payment which I paid. But I'm not sure if that's what you meant...

Anyway, Open class, wanted to go for feudal 100k initially. But that might turn out different.

Settled NE and I discovered very soon the Incan capitol of Cuzco is in my backyard. But I just got the ball rolling and I got out of the MA soon, 500BC-ish, maybe a little bit earlier. During the AA I built the temple of Artemis and did a little bit of exploring, but not too much. There were absolutely NO wars in the AA. Not even one between any AIs! There were two demands, but one from the Incans I rejected and turned out to be false, and one from the Aztecs I simply paid, as they only requested a little bit of gold. I didn't want to go through the annoying process of rep loss and constantly waiting to get peace again.

Now, I have about 14 cities. I am currently in anarchy, but I'm not sure what I should revolt into; Feudalism or Republic? I am planning to do a small war to take over Incaland in the near future, but is it worth switching into Feudalism just for that?

Sorry if I'm not supposed to ask a question about feudalism, if I'm not then just ignore that part of my post.

Nope, that's not it. :) The Regent AI is much more passive than the AI at higher levels; they don't get a lot of starting units, so they aren't way ahead of the human player, a part of the equation for when they make demands.

I think you should follow your Feudal 100K plan, if you wish, and tell us how it worked. The Spoilers are better used for post action analysis and shouldn't be used for 'what do I do next' questions; it puts other players at a disadvantage. You can always keep the save at this point, pursue whichever plan you choose, submit your first result, then return and do 'what if' attempts.

I have not found it too crowded. I started out running into the Iroquois to the north and Inca to the east right away. However, I managed to setup a pretty good border of towns against both. The Inca tried to sneak a spearman and settler through my border to settle behind me but I kept them at bay by shuffling a few units back and forth not allowing them to pass.

Once I had my border setup, I started settling to the west. There was a nice little chunk of land back there to establish quite a few cities. I'm right around the 14 city mark like sirdanilot. I did screw up a little bit after exploring some of the land to the west by not sending some swordmen to keep an eye out for barbarians. They must have had a camp setup for quite a few turns. A stack of about 12 horsemen and 1 barbarian came calling. I managed to get 5 swordmen to the area and take them out before they caused any real damage, but chalk it up as lesson learned.

I did send out a unit to try contacting as many other civs as possible. So far (around 370 BC), I've run into 8 others. America looks like the main rival at this point. They've got about 15 cities and are at war with Persia. Iroquois are also pretty powerful. After those two, everybody looks mediocre to weak. The Inca should be first on the chopping block with Cuzco (containing the Oracle) on the border and a weak military compared to me.

As for anything "out of place" with the AI???? Maybe it's the Regent AI, but they seem awfully happy with me. I've established embassies with everyone I met so far and they are all polite towards me except for the Inca. I think the Inca are annoyed with me. It just seems like there should be more civs that are unhappy with me. So that's my guess. The AI is taking happy pills.

Uh, I managed to expand pretty well.

Regent AI wasn't getting in my way - the starting location of some ARE annoying, though.

I can't seem to figure out your cryptic question either? Hmmm....does it involve those guys from across the pond as we say? I really have no clue.

I am going for a Diplomatic Victory as I stated in Pregame. I will not declare war and will not accept any Mutual Protection Pacts. So far, so good.

I settled on the hill I believe. I almost completely covered the entire west of our nice Pangea. The Zulu got the top most part and since I can't take the city by force I am going to try and have them flip. Same thing with another those pink guys towards the bottom. Right now I think they are down to three or four squares. The only thing I am affraid of right now is possibly getting a Cultural Victory first because my capital is building Wonder after Wonder and all my other cities are currently building things we cannot discuss yet. We shall see.

Hey ReedMaster: I came across the same chunk of barbarians to the west (2 sets in fact) and sent 5 Javelin Throwers to take them out and ended up with 9 slaves from the 24 barbarian horsemen and 4 Elite JT. I did lose one, but 30 shields is a cheap price for 9 'guest workers'.

Yes, those barbarians were really annoying. I got about 8 slave workers, but then one of those horses decided to use a :spear: smily and defeated my elite JT, and then I lost about 4 slave workers. Because of unnattentiveness (I don't know if that word exists, and if it does then I spelled it wrong!) I lost another 4 slaves aswell... [pissed]

Luckily, the americans settled a city in the barbarian lands and now I haven't seen any barb horse anymore! That's the first time I'm happy the AI settles a city close to my territory.

Nope, that's not it. :) The Regent AI is much more passive than the AI at higher levels; they don't get a lot of starting units, so they aren't way ahead of the human player, a part of the equation for when they make demands.

Yeah, I might do a 'what-if' and post about it somewhere.

Duh. I forgot about JT and enslavement. I built a few to start a GA when I attack a civ (we do get a GA in this game, don't we???). I should have been using JTs to attack barbarians. I get too used to building swordmen as early as possible. Still, I think I would have only built a few more JTs for the barbarians. For the same number of shields, swordmen are more valuable with their better attack strength.

And a bonus question: have you noticed anything a little 'out of place' with the AI? :mischief:
OH yeah! And might I add - a VERY nice touch from the map designer.
Spoiler :
After learning Writing and establishing an embassy with England, I had circumnavigated the landmass with a Curraugh...and thought to myself: "Self, didn't I establish contact with England by meeting a Scout with a scouting warrior...long before anyone knew maps?"

A very nice psychological touch - especially since the English were guaranteed to snag the Statue of Zeus on this map.

I settled NE of start, and researched Alphabet at maximum to go for the Repulic Slingshot. My initial builds were warrior, warrior, settler. I had contact will all civs except England by 1550bc, and did not have contact with the English in the AA.

The Republic slingshot was successful and was discovered in 1525bc, an immediate switch of Govs resulted in 3 turns of Anarchy.

1000bc stats Score 169, Culture 134 +2CPT, Republic, 508Gold, Cities 13, Land 129 tiles, Pop 21 Citizens, 27 Units (1 settler, 10 workers, 5 warriors, 4 Spearmen, 3 Swordsmen, 2 Jav Throwers, 2 Curraghs), Currency due in 9 turns.

I entered the MA in 800bc, whithout starting any wars. There is still room to settle and time to build forces. The only infrastructure builds have been barracks.
