Courthouse "bug"...

Yeah, with India it may be a bit over the top. But should we change the concept if it's broken with one of 18 civs? Sounds more reasonable to balance individual civs to fit into game concepts than other way around.

If the "bug" was not a bug except with India, it would be revised to be "+3 happiness in city" instead of removing city unhappiness.

Though since this was added with a patch, with no patch notes or documentation in or out of the game, I think the chances of it being a bug are pretty darn high.

Depending on many factors, it could technically be feasible to turn over your low-population cities to a civ, go to war with it, take the cities back, and end up better off than before...

As far as multiplayer, if there is an issue (not saying there is), it would be that it allows one player to runaway with the game more easily (aka Unstable Equilibrium).

I'm not sure what to think on this one, but if they leave it as is, courthouses should definitely be buildable in non-occupied cities for the extra happiness. It is less tempting because the maintenance would be the same, but as an option it only makes sense to be there.

And it benefits you...you get the extra +3 happiness and get rid of occupied unhappiness but at the cost of higher social policies etc. Bonus, but with a negative effect. A city that's worth annexing isn't going to be one of the teeny population ones so you're going to spend a few turns with a hefty unhappiness penalty anyway.

Sounds fair enough to me.

Really not seeing the negative point here.

It's quite clearly a bug b/c it's never been mentioned as a feature. Additionally, as mentioned, why would you get +3 happiness out of a base annexed city vs a normally settled city? It does not make sense.

Haha, that last sentence reminded me of the chewbacca defense. And guess what the first link is in google when you search for "it does not make sense"? ;)

I don't think it's a bug because the have fixed some other bugs after last patches pretty rapidly. Why not courthouses too? Probably just undocumented.

I don't think it's too overpowered. There is penalties at being a warmonger. Haters are sometimes hard to control.

When the "bug" or "undocumented feature" or whatever it is was added, there was no mention of it in the voluminous notes on that patch, which has led most of us to conclude that it is a bug. Otherwise, why not offer a special building with +3 happiness that is only for cities that you found yourself? Conquering rivals has always been the optimal strategy in most games, anyway, but offering you a "free" happiness boost whilst doing that just seems too overpowered. Heck, I've had many games where I just let happiness get away from me a little bit and I just annexed a couple of cities/rush bought a courthouse. It just seems to fly in the face of many of the updates/fixes that have been introduced with the many patches to date.

Yeah i said that in mp mode it's less stronger than sp because gold is more scarce. Maybe it's not overpowered for some players, but it does for me, at leats in sp mode. In early stages it can be an ok building with ok bonuses but later on when you can have a ****load of money they are pretty powerful.

Does this bug still apply after you reload a game ? I had hapiness drop once after a reload, i would Like to know if it comes from this.
Thanks!

On top of that, if you go Autocracy, you'll get +3 happiness from the courthouse!

Autocracy in MP can be a wonderful thing... if the game gets that far.

Agree. Maybe you should be able to build the courthouse in settled cities for +3 :c5happy: too.
