Usually, when I have KaZaA Lite open, It lags my computer like a pregnant disk jockey in a broken elevator..

so I ctrl+alt+del and look at processes, and it's using up 99% of my system's resources.. (I have an athlon 1.7 ghz) I ask around and find out that it's not normal, it should only take up 14-20% at most..

What can I do to fix this?

I've never experienced this problem with Kazaa Lite. I know that in Windows 2000 there are certain programs that will spike CPU usage up. With XP I've never had the problem.

Let us know what OS you're using, maybe we can narrow down the problem. If it is Windows, have you tried downloading all the latest updates for it? Sometimes those can fix these issues.

One time I installed a version of WMP and everytime I ran it afterwards my CPU would lag for a long time - I unfortunately couldn't uninstall the program since it was embedded into the OS, and it was something I used a lot, so I ended up reformatting and that fixed it right up :D

I'm using XP Professional build 2600, and I sure as hell do not want to reformat, I've got way too much stuff on here I would never wanna part with (every futurama episode :) )

Can't you take out WMP from the edit windows components part in the add/remove programs screen? I think i've seen it, never tried it

Well when I installed WMP series 9 it happened - I also disabled the system recovery option because that takes up disk space and I don't care for it. So I couldn't remove it. Besides, I enjoy reformatting :)

Have you installed SP1 for XP? (Note: If you're using a cracked key you will not be able to install that)

I once had the same problem with kazaa lite until I disabled the scanning of shared files for viruses (under Options - Traffic). I expect you have a virus scanner anyway so this won't benefit you anyway.

But then the best thing would be to dump kazaa and use eMule :D

It seems indeede 2K/XP have a serious problem dealing with CPU resources allocation, and not only for kazaa but also for other P2P programs. I know that my CPU often goes crazy while running DC for too long. Then the only thing to do is to quit the program and restart it. You can always use Vcool to monitor and software cool down the processor. So far, only emule is running fine, without heating it too much. But the drawback is that it interferes with MSN messenger and make it disconnect too often too.

Hey I fixed it.. it sucks but whatever.. every time I open KaZaA I have to ctrl alt del and in processes, right click, highlight priority and select very low
