Is anyone else experiencing issues with the game crashing during the loading page? It seems to crash each time when performing the xml check. I am trying to determine if this is related to the ATI problem or if this is a seperate issue.

I'm having a similar or the exact same problem.

I have the latest directx, I have the latest drivers for my RADEON 9500 pro.

I use the icon to launch the game get the 1st splash screen (the loading notice one) when the 2nd splash screen comes up I get a "check XML" text message with a progress bar that gets to about 1/3 full then the splash window closes and the window process stops running.

we think this might be caused by you not having msxml3.dll on your system. Most people have it b/c they have IE6 installed... is that the case for any of you? (that it is not installed?)

you guys having this problem should go over to the tech forum and check out my new thread. it solves the problem.

I've seen the "Solution for XML problems (German or (EU) version on US Windows) " thread over in the tech forum but that is a different errror then I'm getting. Also I've already got the settings set to how he suggests fixing the problem. Still does not work.

happened to me because of my sound card. I had played once and, i found out later, encountered a run time error that caused windows to "lose" my sound card. Trying to run with out a sound card caused the same type of crash you are talking about. hope that info helps.

I don't have any sound card issues that i'm aware of. No run time errors, mostly because I can't get the game to run for the first time. All my music programs are playing very well.

Anyone found any advise that works to solve this issue yet?

I've called for support and spent 1/2 the day redialing and/or waiting on hold music. Checked ever forum and sent an e-mail to support. No luck yet.

So if anyone Knows something that I've missed please let me know.

I got a similar problem:(

When i start the TUTORIAL the game 'CTD' and give me this error:

Does anyone can help me?
thx!

A possible cause for the crash during "Check XML" are problems with the soundcard-drivers (refering to Soren Johnson in an Apolython thread). In that case it is not a XML problem. Johnson recommends to update the soundcard drivers.

In my case the problem wasn't an old driver, but the using of two different soundcards (i.e. an additional audiocard for making music) on the same PC.

The solution for this is quite simple, you just have to make sure that on windows XP there is only one soundcard set als default (check and change: system -> sounds and audio -> "audio"). Make sure the soundcard for sound-record is the same as for sound-replay.

I hope this helps. Enjoy Civ4 :)
