Hi,
I'm playing Civ IV complete patched to 3.17e on Windows XP SP3. Load game works from the main menu but from inside the game it crashes like 90% of the time. Also very often if I press main menu from the ingame options menu the game crashes. I don't have any other stability issues with any game or app and Civ crashes only on those two occasions. What could possibly be the reason for that?

Welcome to CFC :band:

is there any error message displayed when that happens?

No. Just the standart windows crash dialog. I tried to look at the log files but I didn't find anything that looks like an error. Also tried with my antivirus turned off and also reinstalling my windows xp home and my civ iv complete from scrath. Any help will be greatly appreciated...

Just tried Civ IV. Saved played a few turns and loaded. Everything was fine. Not sure if I play longer it will still be ok. I'll try and let you know.

My hardware should ok I think: 2.4ghz Opteron / 2 GB RAM / Nvidia 8800 GTS running on Windows XP Home SP3. I'm attaching the dxdiag results.

:yup: should be all right. So thats not the answer - one more thing: the hard drive that includes the windows installation: is that full or are there 1 or 2 GB or more free?
The reason I ask is that BtS does tend to page some memory to the hard drive and if there is no space at all for the page file it might die.
Of course if there was no such free space you'd get odd results with other programs as well so that is a stab in the dark
:hmm:
open my games\beyond the sword\civilizationIV.ini and set all 5 items with log in their name from 0 to 1 and save the file. Then start and crash the game and post my games\beyond the sword\logs as a zip file here :)

:hmm:
these logs contain no error messages that would explain the crashes - you said you looked at the log files - was that in the windows event manager?
No it was in the log files but before you told me how to enable the logging in the ini file so now there are more logs than before. I have a suspicion that it's a faulty hardware cause today I found that my chipset fan was not spinning at all and maybe that's why it crashed on saves - more intensive disk activity or something. Any way I'll try to fix it and see how it goes. The strange thing is that my machine is stable - no crashes or unexpected behaviuor in anything except that problem. If it weren't for BTS I wouldn't even know that my chipset fan stoppped. Again thanks for you time and help.
