Crash V: Now More Crashes than Ever!

Yeah, credit where it's due: Since upgrading to latest graphics driver and deleting NVIDIA HD audio driver (which may have been just as crucial) I haven't had a single crash in well over 200 turns on a large map with several mods.

I don't think I've ever seen software BSOD. It's always been hardware or driver related.

It's possible that another explanation is that his drivers were out of date. Especially since he stated that upgrading the drivers solved the problem ...

Fair enough, I shouldn't have said "only."

Thanks for the suggestions. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, verified the integrity of the game files and defragmented the game cache. I set up a game and a few seconds after the game screen loaded, crash. I'm running Windows 7, 32-bit and have tried both DX9 and DX11.

you could very possibly have bad ram. that would have fouled your update install for sure. also, could be poor cpu cooling/ventilation.

RAM was tested. Cooler Master V8 after-market cooler. Cores running at 50-55 degrees under Civ V load (~40 while idle), so 45-50 from TJ Max. It isn't RAM and it sure isn't poor cooling and my case is a Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced with three 140MM fans.

Trust me, it ain't the hardware.

Hasn't it already been established it was fixed by updating drivers? Why is there still diagnosis going on?

A lot of people didn't get a chance to beat their dead horses yet.

I still play on win 98xp and it can only use 2 gb of ram and no crashes.

Win98xp is for games though and any background program can make a fuss.

Dx9 is all I can use though, but the game is working and so are all the other old games. :)

I know, I will HAVE to change one day, but not today!

For me computer started to ragequit when I nuked enemies in vicinity. Strangely enough, they worked just fine when used deeper where I couldn't see. Never had this problem before. OTOH it was my first game with quick combat (if that matters).

Otherwise patch has been clearly improvement for playability.

i have a core2 quad 9550 and i had it OC'ed to 3.2 but it would sometimes crash.. idk why bc every other game is solid. It would only crash on civ 5 when OC'ed

Not as surprising as you might think. Most games these days are graphics limited and will not push the cpu to full load. Civ5 on the other hand, assuming one has an up-to-par graphics card, is in most cases going to be cpu limited. It also doesn't make use of more than 2 cores very well, unlike most recent games from big publishers.

In short, if there's any game that will push your cpu hard, it's civ5.

How do you use Steam to verify Civ's files for integrity?

I both love and hate the game. Even on standard size maps, it always will crash, usually in the industrial era. I have updated drivers. I think it is too many units that kills me, usually as I am building up the army to invade. I have never finished a Civ 5 game, or a Civ 4. I am assuming memory leaks like 4 had.

I have a decent system Intel Core i7 950, 6 gb ddr3, 1gb gts 450 video card, Win 7 64 bit.

right click on the game and its under options i think. This game crashes far too much on far too many systems. I believe it's the result of bad QA and laziness.

I play it on a Sony Viao laptop with a Core i5 processor and 4gb RAM, and an HP desktop duel core processor with an average graphics board and 4gb RAM. The laptop has never crashed, and the desktop crashed maybe three times since game release. That was mainly due to me leaving it run too long without a restart. The key I believe is having adequate RAM.
