crashes at loading screen

@regalman, unfortunaly HP doesn't seem to be updating the drivers much. There are however two drivers slightly newer than the one you had
here

Try the one dated 11-18-2011
at the least it should bring Civ5 back ;).
There is no updated sound driver

There is also an updated BIOS that says it fixes some memory problems, usually I don't recommend people update the BIOS if they are not having specific problems, but this sounds like it might be a pretty important update so I recommend doing it. However do the graphics driver first and let's see if that helps with your problems. I suspect HP is doing something with the generic drivers which is why things went down hill when you updated from Intel (boo on HP) I seem to recall going through this on my dad's old HP once though that was some time ago.

@darkskies

thanks mate. I've just rolled back my driver. but now civ (an even xcom) won't load saying my driver not up to date.

i have uninstalled BE from steam and downloading again to setup. i think it will also download the direct x11.

argggh! want to play this weekend!

Is there a driver between the one you had and the most current one? If so it might work, worth a try anyway. Welcome to driver hell :(.

Also it might be possible to do a system rollback to get things back to the way they were (TBH my experience says that's about a 50-50 chance).

Hmm that's strange maybe it's crashing before it builds it?
Here's what mine looks like:

Maybe you could copy and paste it... goes in same location as the Config.ini. Change the resolution to 1366x768. See if that will force it. What graphics "card" do you have? I'm guessing a laptop with that res. is it within the minimum specification?

I used these exact settings on my laptop except i changed the resolution to 1366x768 and refrest rate to 59 and the game works now. You should try that and see if it fixes your problem as well

I did the driver update and now civ 5 is back to normal :)

BE still crashes after saying DX11 failed to initialize, where as it used to play and the movie and then crash at some point in the loading screen.

hey dude i just installed Civ Beyond Earth....i still have same problem with crash after cinematic...i did everything that u said...and still doesnt work....i played civ5 without any problems

Well I'm out of ideas for now. You might complain to HP that they haven't updated to the latest driver from Intel which does seem to work for some people. You could go back to an even older driver so you could watch the intro movie, but I wouldn't bother ;) . I'd say maybe see if you could find a new/used laptop with a more "modern" graphics card at least a 4000, but yours really isn't all that old main problem seems to be HP not keeping it up to date and making it so you can't just use the intel driver. Alas the PC world seems to be going like the Apple world where anything over two years old is obsolete :(.

It runs on my Surface Pro 1 albeit with the graphics settings quite low (not counting the tablet bugs, I just mean it works and is more or less usable and actually looks ok, some text being still a bit small though). It has HD4000 a step up from the 3000 but still a bit outdated now, but the drivers are up to date enough to work.

You could try posting in the HP forums, see if someone there knows how to get the Intel drivers to work on the HP, sometimes there are work arounds by editing the inf files or something simple.

Your video driver seems to be rather dated: Driver Date/Size: 4/4/2011 23:09:00, 7473664 bytes which is really really old. If Toshiba isn't updating them, try getting the most recent driver from Intel directly.

Yeah, I see where you might get that information from the DXDiag...that's a little weird. But my driver is actually a NVIDIA GeForce, and it's completely up to date. Don't know why the DXDiag wouldn't show that. In any event, Intel's website and Windows both say all my Intel drivers are also up to date. I don't think drivers are the issue.

I sent in a bug report yesterday to 2K. Haven't heard anything except a confirmation that they have my report. Given how many people seem to have a similar problem to this, I'm disappointed we haven't even gotten a "we're working on this." I assume Firaxis and 2K would have a bug-fix team ready and working the day of a big release.

Your DxDiag shows that your NVIDIA card isn't being used. Go to Control Panel and the NVIDIA Control Panel utility. Under Manage 3D Settings, manually assign the NVIDIA card to be used with BE and then see if that helps.

Woohoo! That seems to have done the trick! Wonder why the Nvidia driver wasn't recognizing Civ:BE? But adding in manually did get me past the loading screen finally.

I really appreciate it, Browd. There's no way I would have thought of that on my own. You're a godsend.

choo choo! all aboard the can't get past the loading screen train!

Ran fine Friday, Sunday I (at the games recomendadion) upgraded my drivers, hasn't run since. I've removed the driivers, reinsatalled DX, C++ the game, pretty much everything shy of the OS.

Here's my DX dump, any ideas? http://pastebin.com/BQ0ZKu04

How did you remove the driver? Try removing it using Device Manager if you haven't already. I've seen some reports that this is one of the best ways to remove a graphics driver in Win7, the implication being it does a better job of removing things (and don't use ccClean from everything I've read). Then reinstall the current driver. If that still doesn't work, remove it again with device manager, but reinstall a slightly older driver and see what happens. If that still doesn't work I'm starting to wonder if there is some stuff in the Registry that is hanging around and causing issues like this.

I'd hate to see you have to reinstall Windows, but I will say that can be one of the best ways of getting rid of old junk that no registry/system cleaner can ever find. I had a very very weird problem with my USB 3 ports suddenly corrupting data (no not a virus) spent a long time trying all sorts of fixes and finally reinstalled Win7 a year ago and boom problem gone and a leaner system. I did save all my Steam stuff so I wouldn't have to re-download it. But it's a royal pain and kind of a last desperate act but you may find your system is more responsive after you've gotten rid of some the dead weight as a benefit...the older the system the more likely this is to help.

This worked once for me, so I actually got to play the game! Then it went back to crashing after the intro :(

And you're sure it didn't revert back to the on board video? And you are now using the latest Nvidia driver for sure? If not those two, try verifying the cache in steam, maybe it's possible something got corrupted after your first successful play (unlikely but can't hurt to check).

Will check after exams. Cheers.

It worked about 20% of the time up until today. Now it is back to crashing 100% of the time.

This game is buggy piece of . I am also having problems. Where is the graphics ini I can only see the config.ini to edit?

Tried reinstalling game 3 x with Steam. Updated drivers for video card. Updated Windows 8. Reinstalled Direct X and the other one.

Game crashes after starting or when loading the new game, and also get a "cannot load texture" error when I try and select world map in game creation. Steam says the integrity of the game data is OK have tried many times. Have reinstalled 3 times.

What should I do with my worthless game?

If someone can help me I would be eternaly grateful.
