CTIV-2: The Money Game

In reply to Conroe, this being noble, Roosevelt most likely won't have archers yet (though that won't last too long). If we want to go this route, I'd want to have Washington down and out before turn 50....that's when he'll get his second border expansion. Hmm, this idea might be the best way to go if we stick with it....however, a unit leaving our capital will have to move 9 times to attack Washington.
I was trying to think worst case scenario in which he could have 2 archers defending Washington. Now, I didn't count the tiles, but 9 does seem quite a distance to travel. And, I think the first wave would have to be a good sized stack so that the defenders don't have time to heal before reinforcements arrive.

Alternatively, we could get a settler and hook up those horses and try a chariot rush. Unfortunately, we won't be able to chop rush the settler, or even any other units for that matter.

After looking at the save...as it stands we will could make a warrior every three turns, and once the ivory is done, we can do 2 every 5, and if we get the other ivory up, we could almost make 1 every 2. I think, if I spend my 15 turns just building warriors, the next player could spend their turns moving our entire army on Washington and successfully take it. If a settler gets sent out from Washington before that, they will obviously be visible on the way. I've pretty much convinced myself that this would be the best way to go at this point, but please, tell me why I'm wrong. :)

Lay on Macduff!

Lighthouses everywhere and a string of towns down the neck. Fishing villages will rule.

And let's crush the Amurricans before we get to it.

3200BC
I decide to move our first warrior towards 3S of the rice, as a forward spy.

3120BC
Beijing: Warrior->Warrior

3040BC
Worker finishes camp on the closest Ivory, goes to start one on the second

3000BC
Beijing: Warrior->Warrior

2920BC
Writing finishes, start on Mathematics.
Warrior->Warrior

2880BC
Camp finishes, worker moves to farm the corn

2840BC
Warrior->Warrior

2720BC
Warrior->Warrior

2680BC
Worker goes to mine gems south of Beijing

2640BC
Warrior->Warrior

Notes:
As soon as the next warrior is completed, MM the city to grow and send the brave warriors on their way. Hopefully this will pay off--I'd recommend taking all of them. If 8 warriors doesn't cut it, this was doomed to begin with. My biggest worry is a hill city--we wouldn't stand a chance. To be honest, I've never done a warrior rush either :crazyeye: It just seems like our best chance given the start

PS:
(I did a lazy double click open of the save, and forgot to change the leadername until the last turn, so my name may show up for the first turn. It'll switch over as soon as you end turn if so.)

Go get 'em :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

Roster:
ChrTh
afpunk -- tired from the Warrior rush
Methos -- ready to pound FDR (i.e. UP)
Conroe -- hoping to get some licks in
Bede

Just a quick calculation. If this does work, the most warriors we'll lose is 7. 7x15 hammers=105. So, only 5 more than a settler, AND we get a capital city location. So, while it felt stifling building those warriors--if it works its actually not a bad strategy. And again, I emphasize that if. :)

Do you recall what sort of defenses the city had? Was it on a hill? What was it's cultural defense bonus?
I don't believe that we have a scouting report, at all. I think we are just kind of assuming that it is Washington. My guess, hopefully worst case, is no more than 2 archers with a 20% cultural defense. They would probably have had to beeline for archery, though, to have two by now.

We weren't able to get close enough to actually see the city (its borders had already expanded so I couldn't get close). It has to be Washington, unless the AI gets two settlers at Noble :eek:

Subscribing to this one too. While Santa has yet to deliver my copy of CIV IV, this happened to be one of the aspects of the game that the trial demo didn't give you time to really see in effect.

Good luck, guys!

Methos: 1st warior: 2.0 vs 5.8
Warrior loses to: American Archer (2.64/3)
Methos: 2nd warior: 2.0 vs 5.1
Warrior loses to: American Archer (1.92/3)
Methos: 3rd warior: 2.0 vs 3.7

Methos: 4th warior: 2.0 vs 2.9
Warrior defeats (2.00/2): American Archer
Methos: 5th warior; 2.0 vs 3.4
Warrior loses to: American Warrior (1.70/2)
Warrior loses to: American Warrior (1.40/2)
Warrior loses to: American Warrior (1.70/2)
Methos: Rounds over. We have two full strength warriors left, one with 5 xp. Washington has two warriors left, at 1.7 and 1.4.

Turn 44 (2240 BC)
Warrior promoted: City Raider I
Warrior promoted: City Raider II
Methos: Washington is now at 2.0 and 1.8. I promote the one warrior to City Raider II.
Warrior loses to: American Warrior (1.32/2)
Methos: CR2 dies and I see no reason to continue this battle. One warior can't defeat a 1.8 and 1.3.

Well, things are not looking good at all. I hate to restart but this one is going to take a while to recover from.

Here's the 2240 BC save.

This one is DEAD. :suicide:

I'll roll a new start tonight. The roster will look like this:
Roster:
Conroe (20 turns)
Bede (15 turns)
ChrTh
afpunk
Methos

Conroe, let me know if you have an issue with playing the first 20 turns.

Well, judging from those combat results, the early warrior rush is not a good strategy. The results against the archer was expected...but those warrior vs. warrior battles just don't feel right. Ah well, it was worth a shot.

Remember, Warriors get a 25% city guard bonus. That was probably the difference.
