CTR 0 -- 1 if by Air, 2 if by Sea

Preturn - writing in 5 less turns if we go full speed, not worth it.

Turn 1 -not much. Greece is becoming a powerhouse

Turn 2 - not much

Turn 3 - copenhagen settler>granary

Turn 4 - trondheim settler> settler. bergen, spearmen > settler im thinking a farmers gambit here. Then next player can change it if he wishes

Turn 5 - moving settlers

Turn 6 - I cant decide on city site. O well, regent is forgiving

Turn 7 - oslo built. Sorry if the site sucks

Turn 8 -nothing much

Turn 9 - :weed: barb captures worker.

Turn 10 - sell greece conact with celts for writing

I played pretty bad this time around guys. Sorry. The settler should go 1 square SW. That way it will get 3 wheats and 4 bg. A possible FP spot maybe.

I got it! I'll play by tomorrow night (have to unpack from my trip), and I probably should review what has happened so far :)

Real quick: What version are we playing on? Just want to confirm before I play (I have to reinstall Civ, so I want to make sure I get it right :) )

I just realized...I'm playing the wrong save (2190 BC) ... Bewareofgnomes, can you post the correct save?

(In case you were curious, here's what I did:
Turn 0

Review the current situation:

Hrmm...two barbarian camps? That can't be good.
Writing in 20 ... I thought we traded for Writing?

Settler due in 1 in Copenhagen when city won't hit 3 for 3? :smoke: I switch to spearman at a cost of 10 shields.

Situation is not so hot. Our room to expand is pretty low; we've gotta grab that spot by the lake so we can add dyes...unfortunately, it's close to Carthage, so we're gonna have to rush a temple first thing.

I'm keeping science low for now, but I'm going to check with Carthage/Celts/Greeks frequently for Writing, because we need to get Mapmaking in order to get moving on science.

We're on a sizable continent city-wise, so I'm going to get the Pyramids started somewhere...we'll see after the next round of building.

I hit Enter...

IT: Copenhagen: Spearman > Settler

Turn 1

Reykjavik is built. Start on Spearman.
Meet Brennus, way backwards
Change Reykjavik to Barracks. I want to get some veteran troops over this way.

IT: Greek blustering

Turn 2

Turn 3
Silks!
Trondheim Settler > Temple
Bergen Spearman > Temple
Realized I'm playing the wrong save...)

Ok, thanks :) I'm not going to be able to play until tomorrow night. Will update then.

ERK. Sorry guys, it's gonna have to be Thursday night. I had to get CTR1 started, and well, my sig reveals why I didn't have a chance for CTR0 tonight :D

Fortunately, I have nothing planned for tomorrow night except to be "Intamit with Marge", so I will get it done.

Turn 0 -- 1725 BC

Hrm...Barbarians
With settlers aplenty coming, I decide to get some Tech Parity and steamroll towards Mapmaking.

First, though, I buy a Worker from Alexander for 110 Gold.
I trade Alphabet(!) to the Celts for the Wheel
I trade Comm with the Celts & 10 gold to the Carthaginians for Mysticism

Mined square with no road? Unless there was a good reason to do so (pending Barbarian attack), that's :smoke: ... I move the new Greek worker down to mine the shared plain between Trondheim and Copenhagen

Science to 90%, only 1gpt but we need mapmaking to explore (mapmaking due in 15)

I don't like all these granaries, and we can double our military without penalty...that's my goal for this turn

I press Enter, and offer bounty to the RSG...

IT:
Celts are building Pyramid
More Barbarians to our South
Barbarian destroys improvements

Turn 1 -- 1700 BC
1 Square SW costs the Settler a Wheat, so I decide to build here (will also prevent a gap between Reyjavik and new city
:smoke:
I didn't realize the Settler was being guarded by a SCOUT ... Stockholm is doomed...I order up a Warrior.
This has to end. I fire the Granary workers and order up a Barracks in Reyjavik at the cost of 3 shields (should've done this last turn)
I do the same in Copenhagen at the cost of 4 shields.

I wake up the Warrior in Trondheim and have him take out the Barbarian. Now a Vet.

I sigh and press Enter

IT:
Barbarian dies at end of pointy stick in Bergen
Stockholm ransacked for 46 gold! Scout is dead.

DO NOT SEND SETTLERS WITHOUT MILITARY ESCORT!

Turn 2 -- 1675 BC
Trondheim Settler > Barracks.
Copenhagen builds Barracks, begins Spearman.
Ditto Reyk
I send the Warrior from Reyk to hopefully get to Stockholm before the Barbs show up again

I send Trondheim settler east in order to build lakeshore home (to attack Utica later in game  )

IT:
Barbarians approach Stockholm

Turn 3 -- 1650 BC
Bergen Settler > Warrior
I disobey my previous directive and send this Settler South unescorted. He's going to settle due East of Oslo so he should be ok.

IT:
Greeks kill Barbarians near Stockholm...but will they stop all of them?!?
Barbarians appear N of Bergen

Turn 4 -- 1625 BC
Zzzz

Quick diplomatic check shows Greeks have Iron Working! Too expensive at this point to get, though

IT:
Greeks save Stockholm! Good for them.

Turn 5 -- 1600 BC
Zzzz

Turn 6 -- 1575 BC
Barbarians approach Bergen! Warrior should be built for them, though

Turn 7 -- 1550 BC
Copenhagen Spearman > Archer
Birka is built on shore of Lake Attack Utica. Barracks ordered up, then worker to get dyes

IT:
Greeks POLITELY demand 30 gold. I give it to them (what choice do I have? They have Iron Working, and a military)

Turn 8 -- 1525 BC
Bergen Warrior > Archer
:smoke: Warrior dies vs Barbarian. Forgot to sacrifice to RSG.
Aarhus built. Warrior ordered up.

IT:
Our people want to build Forbidden Palace. I tell people to bite me.

Turn 9 -- 1500 BC
Zzzz

Turn 10 -- 1475 BC
Trondheim Barracks > Spearman
Reyk Spearman > Worker (Spearman sent to Stockholm)
Greeks are building Pyramids

Turn 11 -- 1450 BC
Copenhagen Archer > Worker
Stockholm Warrior > Settler

IT: Barbarian gets Worker :smoke:
Carthage building Colossus

Turn 12 -- 1425 BC
Zzzz

IT: Barbarians destroy improvements near Bergen

Turn 13 -- 1400 BC
Copenhagen Worker > Archer

Turn 14 -- 1375 BC
Reyk Worker > Temple (want to get Furs in border)
Archer beats Barbarian, but redlines to do it

Turn 15 -- 1350 BC
Zzzz

Turn 16 -- 1325 BC
Trondheim Spearman > Settler

Turn 17 -- 1300 BC
Zzzz

Turn 18 -- 1275 BC
Map Making is earned; order up Iron Working (due in 7)
Bergen Archer > Worker
Copenhagen Archer > Galley
Oslo riots! :smoke: ... I'll whip a Temple next turn (that'll teach 'em to sass me)
Aarhus Warrior > Worker
We kill some Barbarians, including dispersing an Angle camp

Alex wants WM and 80 gold for Iron Working. I give him WM and 75 (my map is worthless right now)

There's Iron near Carthage (also near Argos, but we won't be able to assault Argos until later in the game)...we have a target.
I get Celts world map. I see target landfalls for galleys.

Turn 19 -- 1250 BC
Order restored in Oslo. Starvation as well.
PALACE EXPANDS! TWICE!
I rush Temple in Oslo
FYI: I'm going for Polytheism now

Turn 20 -- 1225 BC
Oslo Temple > Warrior

Ok, I got Archers moving north to take care of the Barbarian Camps up that way, plus a Warrior wandering South to get any new ones that show up.

We still need more military though. I fear Alex may start a fight at any time if we get took weak.

There's a Continent (or island) W of the Celts...we need to get over there asap and meet people. One galley is on the way.

Here's our world:

Roster question:
Here is our current roster
Aggie
pdescobar
bewareofgnomes
ChrTh
smurf

Do we want to try to get another player, or lock the roster as constituted?

IT: I look around surveying our troubled empire.
Change Bergen off worker. 10 turn growths?? And we’re makin a worker? Build workers out of the city with the wheat damnit
I question, but do not veto the settler out of Stockholm.
With some creative shuffling, I am able to get a warrior into oslo next turn. That greek looks menacing.
Why the hell are we researching poly? We don’t need monarchy, if we are smart with wars (IE small, us vs one ai wars)
Trondhiem is yet another city missing a granary. WHY DO WE HAVE NO GRANARIES NOR PYRAMIDS?????
1. Trond settler > temple
We need culture if we want to have a shred of hope keeping carthage.
2. copen galley -> granary. We should be able to set that up as a worker factory
3. 2 archers on the border with carthage. I want 5 before we attack. 1 more coming, and two to be made in birka after rax done
4.****! A barb camp just popped up in the fog next to our settler. A barb jumps out and he dies. *%$*%*$*@**$*#%^*#@@#%#%$
new plan. Due to insane amounts of corrution in birka, I investigate carthage. No way in hell are we attacking them. Why? 3 def numids, 2 of em. We’d need at least 5 archers to have a shot at them, and, imo, we’re better off going for argos. I notice a good trade opportunity.
Rop to carthage. We get HBR they geet wmap + 30g
I investigate argos, they have a warrior and a hoplite (2 turns on hoplite) I figure that an archer can take a warrior even (vet arch v reg war) and that 2 or 3 should do the hop in. I change trond to archer, and we’ll have 4v2 on them. Much better then trying to take on 3 3def guys with archers.
5 not much
6 nothing of note
7 nothing of note. Barbs near birka.
8 Oops! Copen riots lux to 10%
9 Alex whines about a warrior.. we leave this time
10 Poly completes, I start min sci on monarchy. Leave it to next guy to trade poly. Archers in position, attack argos at will.
All in all, a pretty crappy set of turns. I was just playing kinda tired, and it showed.

Why no granaries? Simple. We were getting our a$$e$ kicked, so we got barracks and soldiers.
Polytheism was for trading.

Aggie, you're up. pdescobar is on deck.

One mo' thang:

We can retake our own cities with ground troops; just not other Civs' cities.

Ok, we need a plan. As of right now, barbs are kicking our collective asses, we have no iron (WE NEED B. Zerky) and no way of getting it. Our options are to send ~ 5 spears and a settler, and settle next to argos while at war, and just hold the damn thing, and then make peace BEFORE any stronger attackers can be brought to bare. we then rush temple, library etc and we've got iron. Other options? nobody has 2 iron atm, so we cannot trade, and, quite frankly, we cannot hold with spears till muskets or F****ING GURIELLAS. As far as conquest, we need a berzerk fueled rage to take all of the coastal cities on our isle, or(even bettar) an isolated civ on some far away island that is 90% coastal. We then FP it, and some hundred turns later, we have a viable second core.
Ideas, anyone? we need a strong plan on which to act, or else we end up like we did now. No granaries, temples, but a couple vet spears.
We can still pull this off, but waiting for adv flight to fight, and just praying we have the resources for paratroops/marines/whatever(rubber!) is not going to be fun.

Ok, according to the CFC, Berserk does NOT require Iron. If this is incorrect, please alert us, but otherwise we do not need to worry about Iron just yet; we'll just make Carthage our first target with the Berserk.
