In Civ3 i could CTRL U to upgrade all units in the empire of the same type, ie spearmen to pikemen.

Is this option here? Am i missing it?

If you look at the picture to upgrade, hold down <Alt> while clikcing it and it will upgrade all units of that type, although it doesn't prompt you if you're sure

If you want to upgrade all units of one type, e.g. spearmen to pikemen, you need to select any one spearmen unit as if to give it orders, then hold down the ALT key as you click the upgrade button with the pikemen portrait. If you rollover the button with the ALT key down it should show you the total cost to upgrade all spearmen. Even if you don't have enough $$$ to upgrade all of them, you can still click the button and you will upgrade as many units as you can afford.
