Culture flipping ROCKS.

To siredgar,

For 'real world' culture flips, take a look at my thread called "Culture flipping; you may not like it but here are some historical examples". It happened more times in history than most people think (and if, like me, you like 'historical' scenarios in civ3, then culture flipping is the only way that some real world events can be simulated).

Nonsense.

Those "examples" are as false, non-historical, and phony as culture flipping itself, and they were easily refuted with facts.

Culture flipping is a load of bullbleep. It did not and does not happen in reality. Politics, economic strength, and warfare decide borders - otherwise the Italians would have ruled Europe by the end of the Renaissance! And borders do not just flip on someone's fortresses and mines either.

I too want to be able to TURN OFF CULTURE FLIPPING.

They were pretty good examples, IMO. Plenty more are available. I didn't notice a persuasive refutation, but I'll go take another look.

Now I'm pretty sure you actually have the game, so I take it you were exagerating with the following:

"otherwise the Italians would have ruled Europe by the end of the Renaissance!"

It wouldn't happen in Civ 3, either. Most of my games have relatively few instances of culture flipping. Reversion is something else. In my current game I'm up to the late industrial and I've been the strongest culture in the game since the mid-ancient. I've had exactly one city flip to me: a size one city that used to belong to Persia and was captured by Egypt.

Civilizations have maintained and expanded by peaceful means throughout history, particularly religious means. It's hardly a difficult idea to grasp and while it may not be implemented in the most elegant manner, it adds to the game. If it's soooooooooo terrible, go play something else.

Good example. Italy was attacked and occupied by many invaders -- French, Spanish, Austrian, German -- but always maintained its culture and always stayed Italian, no matter how many times it was conquered and oppressed. If military force was all that mattered, there would be no Italy, just a penisular appendage of France.

I really like culture flipping it adds another element to the equation, no longer can you just build up your military and lord it over your neighbours and sit complacently until you suck them dry of resources and tech then raze their country to the ground setting an example to those who don't give to their friends;)

I am desperately trying to use non-violent methods to win this game but as always might is right (and in this case easier). Nothing is more satisfying then seeing your neighbours seeth with rage as another of their cities capitulates to your culture and remains impotent due to your strong military presence MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA:D

Just as it works in Civ 3! Ah - wait, that just demonstrates how the culture flipping model works right. Oh.
