Cumulative Football Quiz #6

We have Willenvanoranje has two parts correct and Scratcher has one part correct. All we need is his name. I would have accepted 32 goals and thus I would have also accepted 14 goals by the top scorer, because there was one disputed goal, but noone really cares that much considering the amount of goals in the game. WVN, you are correct that he is moving to PSV, but what is his name?

Well, I have no idea of the top scorer, so I can not equal willemvanoranje's 2 correct answers. So if no one can get the scorer I guess it is over to willemvanoranje for the next question.

Personally I think if you come across the answer accidentally then you are allowed to post the answer. Its not as if you googled the answer.

Well yeah, dunno.. it's strange, cuz if I'd had seen it on TV or someone else would've told me, I would have posted it!

Name the nicknames of the following teams:
Ajax
Brighton & Hove Albion
Crawley Town (same as a major football club and a national team)
River Plate
Real Madrid
Juventus
1860 München
Sporting Lisboa (payed attention? ;))
AS Roma
Veracruz (MEX)
Coritiba FC
Austria Wien
Atlético Mineiro
Independiente
KAA Gent
Colo-Colo
De Graafschap
Espanyol

Ajax - Joden ;)
River Plate - River? La Banda?
Real Madrid - Merengues
Juventus - Juve? La Vecchia Signora?
Coritiba FC - Coxas Brancas :D

1860 München - Die Löwen (The lions)
Juventus - The old Lady
Real and Espanyol are both nicked the Royals I think.

Colo-Colo? Never heard of them, maybe a nickname already?:crazyeye:

I'd agree. 'Course, if you went to a site intentionally looking for the answer, then that's naughty - just as bad as googling. So the key thing is the intention, not the action, I guess.

Thanks goodness we're just playing for absolutely insane levels of prestige and honour, and not any more earthly rewards, eh ?

Regarding the current question - all but one of those I know have been answered. Crawley Town are known as The Red Devils - same as ManYoo, but I've no idea which national team is called this. Belgium ?

Scratcher, both are right (enough)

MCdread, 4/5 right: River has a different nickname (and it's just Coxa or Coxa-Brancas.. grammatically incorrect, but they kind of made one word of it hehe)

Twonky, 1860 was right.. MCdread already gave Juventus' nickname

which leaves:
Ajax = Joden / Godenzonen (Son's of God) - MCdread
Brighton & Hove Albion = Seagulls - Scratcher
Crawley Town = Red Devils - Lambert
River Plate
Real Madrid = Merengues - MCdread
Juventus = La Vecchia Signora (the old lady) - MCdread
1860 München = Die Löwen (the lions) - Twonky
Sporting Lisboa (payed attention? ) = Leões (lions) - Scratcher
AS Roma
Veracruz (MEX)

Coritiba FC = Coxa(-brancas) - MCdread
Austria Wien
Atlético Mineiro
Independiente
KAA Gent
Colo-Colo
De Graafschap
Espanyol

Hints:
- there is 5 animal nicknames left
- one nickname is a 'profession' (with a superlative in front)
- two nicknames are exactly the same

KAA Gent and Colo-Colo are in some way related. The animal nickname for one of them was an animal hunted by logo, and the other's nickname is the leader of that logo. :p

Yeah it would be Belgium.

Sorry, I missed that! Points for Lambert of course.

River Plate = has to do with the economic position of it's fans
AS Roma = go back to the founding story of Rome
Veracruz (MEX) = an odd coulored ocean creature
Austria Wien = no doubt which colour this flower has
Atlético Mineiro = there's a link with France here
Independiente = a very common nickname
KAA Gent = bill has the same nickname
Colo-Colo = dig into south-american history for this one..
De Graafschap = a profession
Espanyol = something small small, sometimes kept in the garden as pets

I think this makes it pretty easy :D

River - Los Millionarios (the millionaires)
De Graafschap - the Superboeren ( Super farmers/peasants)
Austria Wien - 'Edelweiss' ? (just a guess here)

AS Roma - Probably not what you're looking for, but I think they're sometimes referred to as the 'giallorossi' for the colour of their shirts, but that sort of thing is rather common in ITaly. Otherwise I'd guess something like 'I Lupi'

Roma: wolves. It's in their logo.
Espanyol: paraquites, a bird. A "parkiet", dunno what it is in english? Parrot?
Graafschap: superhoeren in dutch ;) That means super farmers.

I thought indepediente were the red devils as well. At least I think they play in red, and every team that plays in red are red devils. Pretty lame.

Ajax = Joden / Godenzonen (Son's of God) - MCdread
Brighton & Hove Albion = Seagulls - Scratcher
Crawley Town = Red Devils - Lambert
River Plate = Millionarios - jameson
Real Madrid = Merengues - MCdread
Juventus = La Vecchia Signora (the old lady) - MCdread
1860 München = Die Löwen (the lions) - Twonky
Sporting Lisboa (payed attention? ) = Leões (lions) - Scratcher
AS Roma = Wolves (but Lupi means wolve right?) - jameson
Veracruz (MEX)
Coritiba FC = Coxa(-brancas) - MCdread
Austria Wien
Atlético Mineiro

Independiente = Red Devils - Shabba
KAA Gent
Colo-Colo

De Graafschap = Superboeren - jameson
Espanyol = periquitos - Shabba

I have no idea anymore how the score exactly works.. but if there comes someone and guesses the last five right he will have won :D

And jameson, smart guess on Austria Wien.. but I'm sorry to report that it's not correct ;)

repeating/adding hints:

Veracruz (MEX) = an odd coulored ocean creature
Austria Wien = no doubt which colour this flower has
Atlético Mineiro = there's a link with France here
KAA Gent = bill has the same nickname
Colo-Colo = this is an important function

Now both KAA Gent and Colo-Colo have a nickname that has something to do with Indians (as in cowboys and indians, not pakistani and indians... as in Sitting Bull, and not as in Ghandi)

Colo Colo - Chiefs? (as an Indian tribe chief)
Austria - Lillys? (as a flower)

edit: Gent - maybe - Sherifs?
