Cumulative Geography quiz #4!!!

(1) They hold a lot of "green"s, but are also run by Alan Greenspan.
(2) One of the 3 green civs in Civ 2 - don't remember Civ 1 that well, but they were definitely green in that too.
(3) No idea.
(4) This is a church at Greensted in Essex.

I'll try and find the other answer on the net if I can be bothered, but I doubt that no. 2 can be that easy - although it probably is. If anyone can come up with the third answer overnight (GMT) while I'm not at work then they are very welcome to pose the next question.

Good work anyway Duke.

  1. The term is "greenbacks" - and of course you're right about Alan Greenspan.
  2. The Civ colour is not the main "green" I'm looking for. Anyone know the more geographical answer?
  3. This one's still up for grabs. Who knows a green to do with King - or should I say Kong - Frederik the sixth?
  4. Greensted church - absolutely right - a wonderful place even for a heathen like me. Originally thought to be Saxon, it's recent dating as Norman Conquest doesn't change its oldest status.
    [/list=1]

Who can answer #3 and provide a better "green" answer for #2?

  1. #2 Zululand is also the location of the African Veldt, which is a large grassland. Grass is green!

#3 King Frederik VI was king of Denmark and as a result, also king of Greenland. However, you probably are looking for some personal connection between the two. The best I could find is that although Frederik VI was the king who was forced to cede Norway to Sweden during the Napoleonic Wars, he was able to retain Greenland.

Duke why don't you set the next question regardless? No one is going to get this.

The missing answers are:

Zulu Time = International Standard Time = Universal Coordinated Time or UTC for short (short for the French in fact). The one letter suffix given after a time to indicate UTC is 'Z'. Z is Zulu in the international phonetic alphabet. Both these terms replace GMT - Greenwich Mean Time - though they are the same thing timezone-wise

Kong Frederik den VI Kyst: massive 300 mile long glaciated area inland from the south-east coast of Greenland, between its southern tip and the Arctic circle, or roughly between Narssarssuaq and Angmagssalik.

Over to you Duke.

I haven't given this much thought Duke. I thought at first that perhaps the Dow Jones Index had gone up by a factor of 200 in the 60 years since Pearl Harbor but I think it's more like a factor of 100, assuming of course that your gardens and trees were an elliptical reference to growth of 'greenery'. But am I even on the right track?

Maybe it has something to do with the hanging gardens of Babylon? I know Bin Laden and Saddam were working together and that Saddam is using ancinet Babylon in order to make his people more united.

Seeing as this thread has been stagnant for 2 days now, I'll practically give you the answer: G-Man, you are right with the language, and now think of Gardens and trees......
And the growth is nothing very clever - the city has simply increased in population by this much in this time. Someone must get it now.........

This is a simple One:

The oldest pub "Still in use" where is it located ???????

I'll take it that this city has something to do with arabic... Maybe it's Ryadh? I don't know about it's population but It's saudi arabia's capitol. And Bin Laden was born in saudi....

:goodjob:
Well that shouldn't have required so many clues....
I'll give you the next question and not act all picky about spelling.
The name Riyadh comes from "gardens and trees" in Arabic, it is the place of birth of Osama bin Laden, and as it has only (relatively) recently become the capital city, it was tiny 60 years ago and has exploded in terms of land area and population since then. Next question G-Man :).

I don't know much about geography... So I'll give you something about Israel, but I'll make it real easy.
It's about a famous Israeli military operation. This operation was named after the only Israeli soldier that died during the attack. This soldier was also the brother of an Israeli prime minister. Who are the soldier and the PM, and where did this operation take place?

I think its the raid on entebbe (did I spell that right? ), but I cant think of the name...arrrgh! I hate when this happens!

I cheated. I looked it up. It was Entebbe, and the name is Col. Netanyahu. He was killed escorting the hostages to the plane.
