Question 14

Which country was a French and British colony at the same time?

------------------

<IMG SRC="http://www.3dflags.com/images/g/3dflagsdotcom_greec2gs.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://www.3dflags.com/images/f/3dflagsdotcom_franc2ws.gif" border=0>

q 14.
canada?

Nope.

Maybe French and British were present in what is now Canada at the same time but since then the country changed it's name, borders, etc...

The status of the country I'm talking about was called Condominium.

PS: I'm talking about the XXth century

Then you're probably talking about Cameroon during the First World War. (There are other examples like the Falkland Islands in the 18th Century.)

Question 15: Christianity became the "official religion" of Iceland in the year 1000. More recently it adopted another official religion. When did that happen, what is it, and why is there a sense of irony involved?

------------------
<IMG SRC="http://www.anglo-saxon.demon.co.uk/stormerne/stormerne.gif" border=0>

The Viking religion (Odinism) I think that there is another word for it though. I am not sure if I am right or not so tell me Stormerne and I will ask another question if I am right.

Forgive me for posting twice but I didn't mention the irony. Well I would guess that Iceland being so far north were the last to kick out the old religion and then were the first to re-accept it?

They call it Asatru, I call it Heathenry, some call it Odinism, but yes you are right!
goodwork.gif

Iceland was forcibly converted from Asatru to Christianity in the year 1000 and though they were the last to do so, they weren't the last European country to convert from their native pagan religion to Christian. That honour I believe goes to Finland some considerable time later. The irony of course is re-adopting the same religion some 973 years later!

And now its your turn to set a question...

Anyway in alphabetrical disorder:Mausoleum of Halicarnassus (ok, I try to guess the name in English so please forgive me the spelling, thanks), Hanged Gardens of Babylon V <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0> j/k, Pyramids of Gisey, Lighthouse Alexandria, Colossus in Rhodes, Zeus temple, Great Wall in VietNam

, and Artemise/Diana Temple in Ephesus. BTW, I forgot the name of the mad guy who burnt that temple up. According to the books, this mad man did that to become famous and have his name written in the history book. Ironically, then it was decided that his name was never written anywhere so that nobody will know him (suprem punishment for this megaloman)

centennia says:

King Charles XII of Sweden decided to invade
Russia. His army in Poland had been unable to subdue
the kingdom. Charles spent the winter on the eastern
Polish border waiting for the Ukrainian Cossacks to
rally to his banner. At the battle of Poltava in 1709
Tsar Peter the Great defeated the Swedish army and
ended Sweden's days as an imperial power. King
Charles escaped, but the Swedes rapidly lost ground
on all fronts.

is this it?

also, 1610????? how sure are you, centennia says

1610: From 1606 to 1613, chaos reigned in Russia during that country's "Time of Troubles." The
Poles occupied Smolensk, while the Swedes took Novgorod.
