This is a thread I saw at Apolyton, but I'm not subscribed there, I'm subscribed here. So I decided to post this thread Here.

Anyway, many of us are addicted to civ. We play during all of our spare time and we need a cure. Any suggestions? (mainly comical)

By the way, The Health ministry should force Firaxis to post this message on their boxes: "Playing Civ is addictive and bad for your health", much as they do with smokes.

"The Surgeon-General warns that recent studies have shown that playing Civilization can lead to hours of lost productivity, insomnia, blurred vision, and lack of sex."

The last part may scare enough people...

well atleast i dont need to worry about that i have a well varied game life (Civ 3, morrowind and counterstrike :D )

I would say something about it but my domestic advisor is asking me what to build next in my capital so I dont have time now :P

instead of warnings we should be forcing the federal governments to spend trillions of dollars on a cure for civ 3 addiction! instead of nicotine it would be called.....uhm....errr.....culture-flipitine? No......Help me out here! :P

In Canada they put disgusting photos of diseased lungs , teeth, etc on cigarette packages.

Maybe they should have photos of some of the civ fanatics after an all night session.

Warning: Excessive use of this game may be detrimental to your appearance.

Addicting? Well, yeah....but, bad for you health? I don't buy it. This so called "cure" is probably being pushed by players' significant others who want them to take out the trash NOW instead of "just a few more turns..."

If you really want to break the "addiction" play on chieftan (or easy mode) until you get bored with it. Me, I keep thinking up new ways to beat the other civs, so I'm not bored yet. :D

I could address the possible "lack of sex" but that might violate forum rules and get my newbie self in trouble.

Or, find a better game than Civ3. For me, Majesty was addicting until I bought Civ3, which is the hallmark of a well-made game, isn't it?

I've found that a sharp blow to the head can cure Civ addiction, though it may result in temporary amnesia...

You could always form a chapter of Civaholics Anonymous...

Seriously, I have been thinking lately about how I play way too much! I'd rather be addicted to this deeply engrossing game, however, than to be hooked on a psychoactive substance.
A few days ago, in an effort to temper myself, I set my alarm in order to alert myself that my time was up. I pressed the snooze button more because of the "just-one-more-turn" virus than I ever have in the morning! That is one tough bug!

(Note: I in no way mean any offense to anyone associated with AA. In fact, I have a close friend who was helped tremendously by that excellent program.)

A few years ago a buddy of mine was hooked on civ2 and was losing sleep, playing weeknights until 3 or 4am.

During a brief fit of madness (or lucidity?) he broke the civ2 CD. To this day he claims it saved his career AND his marriage.

Me I could never do that...my girlfriend would kill me if she couldn't play civ!:)

my girlfriend would kill me if she couldn't play civ!

Man, you're lucky!!! My girlfriend hates civ, but then again, she hates computers too..

I don't think I want to be cured... They'll just have to co-exist, I guess...

It's hopeless! The only thing that can cure me of Civ3 is Civ4! :suicide:

On second thoughts, if they ever remake Master of Magic.... :jump:

Both 'cures' would only be of the substitution type, of course. A permanent cure would have to be 'cold turkey' - smash my computer?

I will never be cured of this addiction, but my wife knows how to fight the symptoms...

Wife: "honey, it's late! You need to sleep!"
Me: "Wait, just one more turn..."
TZOOMPH!
Me: "hey, you unplugged the computer!"
CRACK! POW! BLAM!
Me: "ouch, not my head... ouch!"

:)

I think maybe I should start a 12 step self help group for civ addiction CA

Civaholics Anonymous!!

We could have meetings that go like "Hi I'm Sabo and I'm a civaholic.. "hi sabo" Last night was a milestone for me, I was able to turn off the computer and get to bed before 3AM!!"
