Not an SG, but an interesting scenario. The set up is a Custom Continents map with 1 continent per Team. There will be a standard number of players, the human starting as De Gaulle of France (Chm/Ind). His Unique Unit is the Musketeer, his Unique Building the Salon. The variant is as follows:

First, your starting position:

Scary, eh? That's right, a two-tile island with a forested hill (hint: it contains Iron!) and 4 viewable sea resources: Fish, Crabs, and Clams are coastal, and there are Whales in the Ocean. The AIs are arranged on their continents like normal; however, your original starting position has been replaced with...Barbarians! Yes, the Barbarians may become their own powerhouse, who knows?! Your island has coastal connections to the three continents via the Gates (hidden in the fog). This means all the AIs can contact you...but can't contact their comrades on other continents unless you give them open borders! As for the specific variant rules:

1) The human can only build 7 cities, including the capital. Of these 7 cities, 3 must be on the Gates. Thus, the human can only build 3 'normal' cities.
2) The human must capture all Barbarian cities he/she knows of before going on conquests. So, you land on a continent and find a Barbarian city..you must either keep or raze it before you attack the AIs on the continent. If you find a Barbarian city in the middle of a war, you must destroy that city before you return to attack civilization.
3) The human must establish three colonies. This means one colony per continent.
4) The average number of cities the colony has must outnumber the player's cities before victory is recognized.

I've been toying around/playtesting this idea. De Gaulle is the best leader for this IMO, since his Industrious trait helps you grab wonders you'll need, such as Moai Statues, and his Charismatic trait provides an essential +1 :)...considering that the closest happiness resource is inaccessible until Optics. The purpose of this variant is to investigate the possibility of thriving on a 'trade empire', and to see how well colonies can thrive. Before I forget, the Barbarians do have a capital in this scenario, so be warned!

So: De Gaulle of France. You have been appointed leader of the Civilized World, ruler of the upstart nation of France, and conqueror of Barbarian tribes. Commit to your destiny!

Edit: wow, I'm a idiot. I forgot to swap out Agriculture for Fishing. Might make it a bit more of a challenge. ;)

(the zip folder contains Monarch, Noble, and Emperor saves, all adjusted with the necessary units.)
