I just finished playing Napoleonic Europe Conquests Scenario and I have to say its the most fun I've had on Civ before.

I started as the Russians and assessed the situation to realise that being a considerably strong nation I had a good chance of contesting the victory points win in the time span allowed.

So I started my started my victory location conquest on the neighbouring Prussians. Their land consisted of most of Germany and East Belgium. They had a few little gems to take being Berlin and Frankfurt which once taken gave me a considerable boost in victory points.

I allied with Austria my other neighbours for a little assurrance that there is not two opponents at the same time and kept out of the French battle. That is until the Prussians were gobbled up without an inch of help from any nations, pesky Germans...

Looking strong after conquering the Prussians and only keeping the cities with Victory Locations and razing all other survivors had caused me to have a bad reputation in the diplomatic community. But no one dare take on the might of the Russian Cossack.

You see the beauty about the Cossack was that although the other countries had worthy and if not stronger units then the Cossack, they did not possess 3 move turns every go. Meaning I could attack that one extra time and also traverse the rough Russian landscape to Europe for the long battles ahead alot quicker then they could rush into battle.

After many battles and a few leaders being created, I created 3 armies to move towards France to take their valued VP locations. I ran into some heavy resistance and realised that their might Imperial Guards were ripping my Cossacks and Russian Guards to pieces and just didn't fall like the Prussians did with ease. In saying that I managed to conquer 2 VP cities of them and came close with 15 turns to go for the win.

I decided to make a peace treaty with France and hoped that their may be another way to gain VP cities without straining my forces on the strong French. Then it hit me, beforehand in my quarrels with France they took Frankfurt back off me then Austria managed to take it with little units in a fluke and for some reason it gave more VP points the many of the other locations.

So I had found my "Holy Grail", not sure of the consequences I waged war on Austria with the help of the French in an edgy military alliance between us. To my dismay its like as if the French still had a grudge and did not put many units into battle against the Austrians leaving me to defend my long and VERY unguarded long stretch of conquered cities from Russia.

I got Frankfurt but lost a more major point, Konigsberg. They cut me straight down the middle disconnecting my empire with 5 turns to go. They proceeded to gang up against me with ALL! nations declaring war and trying to hold me out from the win with no concern of France's close trail.

In the end I just managed to hold out but after the official turns were over they relentlessly tore me to pieces from every end! Even the Ottomans had their own pick from South East and gave me hell.

An absolutely awesome scenario which really tested me...

I love that scenario too. The Austrians are pretty fun, but France is the most fun. I love playing with those IGuards and ICavs. :)

I find the French too easy and the Russians I learnt that you need to protect the long thin line of conquered cities you leave in your path, proving quite difficult the all the nations declare war in the last part of the scenario.

i do to, but those each cost 150 or 160 sheilds, more than any unit in the regular civ mod, and there aren't factories in that game. add that with frances grassy, poor sheild producing land, and you won't get many.

i prefer spains cheap, 65 sheild soldados and 90 sheild cavalry.

Yeah, but if you don't lose any... :groucho:

The best part about playing as France is that you don't have to fight France.

While this is not my favorite conquest (Middle ages) I also find it to be the most challenging

The French are not very difficult when you choose a nation that is not next door to them. As they never really traveled over the Prussians land to attack me.

I suppose on Demigod and below, a win with the Ottomans is automatic, perhaps....

Napoleon is very fun, especially as the French (easy makes it more fun )
I tried the Russians, Brits, and Austrians too, but found more challenging, too much for me.

I've enjoyed playing the Brits and beating France & Prussia. having a pretty secure base helps especially once you start taking continental land and the counter attacks are focused there.

I've tried rather hard to win this scenario using the British, but just haven't been able too. On the other hand, I haven't won as Prussia or Austria either, but I did pull it off with Ottomans, Russia, France, and Spain. I really loved this scenario, my favourite tactic being the large stacks of artillery that manage to take all the VP city defenders down to one hit point, allowing my armies to capture them with ease.

As a side note, I relied on a "limited war" strategy where I fought another civ only to take the victory point cities and then negotiating peace. This leaves the other civs really mad at me, but most are too weak to mount an effective attack on me. Also, I managed to turn a few of these castrated civs into allies for the later parts of the game. In all it's a great scenario, and a real test of my tactical ability. Ciao, e buonna fortuna.

I won with the Brits recently.

I quickly launched an invasion of Denmark and eliminated them with ease.

Napoleon focused his attention on Naples and Prussia and the Spanish cleaned up the Portugese.

I then moved mass amounts of troops to Gibraltar by sea and declared on the Spanish - overwhelming the Iberian peninsula in just a few turns, for some reason their cities were not well defended.

Seeing that I was lagging far behind the French in VP - I had no choice but to take them head on. Utilizing a three pronged assault I move in from the Pyrenees and the former Dane peninsula. The master stroke was my own version of a D-Day style landing of mass stacks of Lifeguards and Grand Batteries on the Normandy coast. Nearing the end of the game I sneaked out a VP victory by capturing Paris on the second to last turn.

Much fun.

I must say that the only complaint I have about this scenario is the lack of ships with bombard capability. Ship of the Line should have this at minimum.

I remmeber playing a game as Britain that took me 66 turn before I got my first MGL. That was with attacking with elite Household Calvaries for most of the time. So far I have only played as Britain and France, and they were at the lower levels anyway. I have found that playing against humans is much more fun. ATM I am playing this scenario is a PBEM are Britain. In this game I am now at war with the French anSpainish armies because I signed MPP with Sweden and the a MA with Sweden against France. The good thing about being with Sweden is that many of the players have MPPS with them, so that has dragged this game into a very early continental war, which should benefit me greatly.
