Of course there will be. Blizzard won't give up on such a profitly(?) franchise. I've read somewhere that they already started making it. It's only a matter of time.

I don't think Blizzard has announced anything yet, but a couple of ex employees started working on a new Diablo like game, Hellgate: London.

Hellgate: London is a computer game under development by Flagship Studios. The direction of the game is similar in spirit in a number of ways to the Diablo series, due to the co-founders of this video game developer. These are ex-Blizzard employees, including Diablo series creators Erich Schaefer and former Blizzard North President David Brevik. The other founders are Erich's brother Max Schaefer, former Blizzard North Vice President Bill Roper, and Diablo II producer Kenneth Williams.

I'm inclined to agree with this. As much as another RTS would be welcomed (Warcraft 4, Starcraft 2) as well as another edition to the diablo franchise... I'm sure they see it as 'competing with themselves'. I seem recall one of the big MMO companies almost 10 years ago decided AGAINST releasing a sequal to their active MMO (Ultima Online?) because it would overall hurt their player subscription base.

I'm sure Blizzard sees it the same way. If they were to release Diablo 3 in the same battle.net friendly format as the previous two, they would lose many active WoW accounts for months in favor of the new hack'n'slash. While the initial sales of the games at 50$ a pop would be a boon... what if it keeps people away from WoW for more then 3 months. 4 months of an inactive account is easily 55+ bucks lost... and the fact that Diablo 2 STILL has a fair sized bnet following, I'm sure they see a Diablo 3 release ultimately as a sales loss for WoW, and thus the company as a whole.

They chould but i think that if no expansion packs comes out WoW they might start a Daiblo3 and release it when WoW dies out.

I believe you are correct. Origin did cancel Ultima Online 2. Otherwise known as Ultima Worlds Online.
