Lots of people on this board complained about how bad FOXNews is. I can't watch FOX but after reading this I've to agree. This doesn't deserve to be called journalism. Is FOX really a big news channel in the US? Hard to believe..

Does History Repeat Itself?
Monday, December 06, 2004
By Cal Thomas

Something terrible is happening in the land of wooden shoes, windmills, Rembrandt (search) and wonderful breakfasts.

A Dutch hospital is euthanizing — killing — newborn babies who don't measure up to an arbitrary standard set by the hospital. The hospital at first requested guidelines for so-called "mercy killings" of newborns. It then revealed it has been engaging in the practice without any guidelines at all. Three years after the Dutch parliament passed a law allowing doctors to actively kill patients they deemed terminally ill, in great pain and with no prospects for recovery, it has come to this. At least with the elderly sick, they had to be consulted about their wishes. Newborns receive no such privilege.

I'm not surprised.

Once a single category of life is declassified as having no intrinsic value and a right to life, it is a very short step to declassify other categories when they are considered inconvenient, or burdensome.

Holland is a perfect example of what happens when there is no governing moral standard. The Dutch have decriminalized most drugs and people smoke dope openly in venues set aside for the practice. Prostitutes display their wares like mannequins in department store windows. And now we have at least one hospital murdering already born babies because someone has decreed them unworthy of life.

If ever there was a slippery slope to be studied, this is it.

The Dutch are now grappling with their open border policy. They have admitted thousands of radical Islamists who have not assimilated and are threatening the stability of the nation. A Dutch filmmaker (search) was murdered last month by a radical who didn't like a film he made criticizing Islam's treatment of women.

And now we have the killing of newborns. All of this in a country where the Nazis murdered Ann Frank just because she was Jewish and therefore less than human.

Does history repeat? In Holland, apparently it does.

 :crazyeye:

That's not meant to be journalism; its an opinion piece. FOX is largely an opinion network; while they have some news, they have much more talk shows, pundits, etc.

These opinions are passed off as objective journalism, however. Isn't the FOX news motto something like 'Fair and balanced'?

Are you serious that that is there motto ? Because IMHO they don't deserve it with this very unbalanced article (and then I'm nice here).

I also detest Fox News, they have bashed Canada more times then I can count. Thankfully, Bush knows better then taht.

But, they did allow Fox News in Canada, finally. Just shows that there are some who are willing to watch that kinda stuff here, and, furthermore, that we do tolerate the right-wing stuff, we just ignore it.

If this story is not true, then why did somebody just start this other thread?

full story in London Telegraph

excerpt:

When people see the government do nothing about a bunch of rampaging Muslim extremists, what do they expect? The government conveniently took guns away, so the people can't fight back. :ar15:

Be warned, America

Also, I knew a guy named Herman in Hengelo, who moved to Germany. He didn't say why he moved, other than Nederland was getting too crowded...

I don't think the complaints are about the truth (or what the writer precieves as the truth), but about the way the story/opinion is told, one sided.

Fair and Balanced seems to have a new meaning to some at Fox.

Because idiocy isn't confined to FOX news.

Germany is the proper place for all Hermans, of course :D. I suspect we're well rid of the guy.

I'm going to have to start quoting NY Times editorials here, apparently.

Really, when I first begun to get Fox news at home, I haven't watched it until people have mentioned how horribly biased it is. I could not believe that a major network could be as bad as people painted it - so I decided to check for myself.

When I went to see a show, I swear, if I haven't put on the right channel myself, I'd swear that what I saw was not an actual news show, but in fact, a Saturday Night Live impression of a terribly biased right-winger show, mocking it's politics. I kid you not. I could not believe it was true, but I can hardly dispute with evidence I saw with my own eyes.

Needless to say, haven't watched much FN after that. As someone else once mentioned here on CFC, "it's a fair and balanced circus out there".

Regards :).

I now have the proof that the US citizens are manipulated, de-educated. If only this crappy machine would stay in the USA proper, but no !, Fox News also feels the duty to "educate" the French !!! :crazyeye:

Valuable piece of advice : To all of you who only get news via crappy channels that don't even compare to Al-Jazirah (sp?), don't be surprised the world hates the USA today. It's high time the USA stopped looking at their navel (? belly button), and started to be curious of the environment surrounding them - the World. I particularly "like" the way the WWII Netherlands are painted in this article, has this guy ever visited Ann Frank's House in A'dam ? Didn't the Marines learn from where they got to during WWII, or was it just a hunting campaign for them ? I like the Netherlands in some ways, they represent some kind of hope for the future, and the way this guy pictures the NL is plain crappy. Sometimes I wonder if we Europeans are truely "enlightened" ; I don't think so, but serious...

@kryszczczczczzcztov: I don't think that advice will affect anyone who needs it. Most of us on CFC get many opinions from CFCers, and some of us even get most of out news here. I fully agree with it though. :) :p

Fox News serves one very important purpose. I can immediately dismiss the opinion of anyone who watches it as a "news" channel. I like it very much because of that. I don't mind people who watch it for entertainment.

Well, the FOX network has many good purposes... Simpsons, MLB Playoffs, Super Bowls, etc...

I'm graduated in Marketing & Advertising and I saw some stuff in Fox News that r really stranger. In high school we study "semi-optic" and Fox News did a great job in this area. No, I did not study the “Fox News case” and don’t know people who hate the channel and say bad things about it, I studied other cases, learn and I’m using my knowledge in this text. "Semi-optic" means everything there is on the TV screen, not necessary the news the journalist is talking about. To be honest this channel that suppose to be serious look like Cop shows that we have in Brazil like "Cidade Alerta". The channel looks like try to bright the fear to the audience.
- Each five minutes appear that scandalous “Fox News Alert!”, when u think “Damage! New terrorist attack” appears a stupid news
- The colors are alive, primary, Fox News don’t use pastels tones like CNN
- The “subtitle” are faster then CNN and also use a primary yellow.
- The other addiction information use big words, many special effects
- The speed of speech of the journalists is faster then in CNN, they speak loud, camera moves all the time
- The screen is full of stuffs and moviment: Fox News brand twice, animated American Flag, animated “alive” word
- The speed in the Channel is really faster then in CNN
- I worked for some communication vehicle in Brazil and I know some “Popes” of this sector, they have the opinion Fox News is scandalous Republican. For what I saw and read, I agree.

I don’t want say “CNN is good and Fox News is bad”, I don’t like CNN neither, I just wanna say there are some stuffs really stranger in Fox News and I’m not talking about the news. If this work in “semi-optic” doesn’t have the attention to bright the fear, it was done by a team with the worst taste that I eve saw. What both channels at the same time, the difference is huge.

Has Cal Thomas been working for Fox for very long? He's been syndicated in my home-town newspaper for as long as I can remember, and he's even more of a right-wing nutjob than this particular article indicates. He could win the Olympic gold if jumping to conclusions were a sport. I don't think I've ever seen a person use up more words to say less. I'm sure he fits in just perfectly at Fox. :)
