Darius, The Best Leader.

Glad we answered your question!
Yes, Darius is good if you just want to rush the other civs early. :king:

Darius might well be the easiest leader with which to win. You REX as hard as possible and if you have horses you can expand via aggression. He's probably the best leader if you look at it in terms of you could win the game in your sleep.

No Brainer - Yes. If Obsolete can get a cheese win on Deity with 2 or 3 cities when the 1st place guy has like 30+ cities, then 6 cities can win on any level any time any place, etc.

I don't see how it's even debatable to the contrary.

6 cities is enough with some settings.

There are often times 6 cities is not enough, especially on Deity. Huge maps is still the perfect example and I've never seen someone do it (with at least the recommended number of AIs) without hand-picking them.

Maybe the reason people don't play Deity on Huge maps is that needing only 6 cities doesn't work.

If you're going to say 6 cities is enough on any difficulty level, you can't just later on say "most people don't play deity" to backup your claim. I'm still waiting to see someone win a Deity huge map with 6 cities.

Really?

We allow AP cheese or not? Gaming the AP has allowed me to win a deity OCC on huge pangea. Some time in the 1200s I think. No Toko wasn't in the game. Bulb theo, build a Christian AP (flip back to other religion), give everyone one Christian city and vote. Difficult on deity, but as long as you can get a stable diplo situation (where you aren't subject to invasions by your neighbors) you should be able to milk this for any map setting.

I still don't get the point of 6 cities. What's good in 30 rifles if the AI has 60?

Grenadiers. AI loves to research it early on Emperor.

sorry AI dont have grenadiers at 1000 AD at Emperor
and if they have a stack of 60, its more likely 60 axeman from shaka :D
I'll play a tutorial game today

Can't see how you get it in 1000AD without exceptional luck and appropriate leader. As for me even on Monarch I can not reliably get rifling from lib.

First off I am by no means any kind of Civ "master". But it seems to me imho that a "best leader" discussion should become less and less relevant as you advance in difficulty lvl. The "best" leaders being discussed here are just that. Which it would seem to me are to be used by beginners and people learning the game to offset their lack of knowledge with powerful traits. As you progress your need for that "crutch" should be less and less. So ... just my opinion and maybe it stinks :mischief:. Once you hit monarch you shouldn't need to play the best anymore. You should have graduated to guys like Brennus and Peter by now.

One can think "best" the one who wins in a map made for him, or the one who can be good in any
map.
If "best" means the 2nd option then yes Darius is one of the "best".

I find this a bit confusing and wonder what game you are playing? Even when I am on Deity and trying to conquest myself into some land the AI usually has nothing more than Longbows at 800-1000 AD and never have the tactical or numerical advantage to stop my quick push.

On Monarch I can reach Rifles no later than 1100 AD (research slower on Monarch) in almost any game, and as long as you bulb Philo should never have a problem getting Liberalism first.

Once again, here is the link on how to easily amass hordes of Rifles on any level: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=8211849#post8211849 .

I don't know what to say except it always works. With the new patch, when you over expand you won't be able to tech as fast. If you maintain a modestly small empire 6-10 cities you can quickly power tech while amassing a huge empire at the same time.

Obviously, if I had a civilization like Rome or Persia I would play with non stop war and have 20+ cities by 1000 AD with 1000+ bpt but that is a different case all together.

Surely, you mean AD. Otherwise, I call BS. :p

Link works fine but of course I mean AD =D.
