Darkelf Design

as i said previously, the strengths are pretty much not going to be what ive written there :p

besides, when you factor in that heroes are usualyl early game units, with equipment, and access to the heroic attack/defence props (plus 2 strength), as well as the amazing promotions like immune to psychology, fear, and the ability for him to 'upgrade' by mounting a cold one chariot of black dragon... there are a lot of factors that we need to take into consideration for heroes :p

Yeah, that's true. Huh, I shoulda looked at the hero posts again. Yeah, I see em. Huh, my bad. But yeah, heroes are called heroes for a reason.

Looks okays. What exactly are the chances of gaining the stupidity promotion? If it is high I see alot of cold one knights and chariots rolling out a rug for a picnic instead of attacking.

Um...that would suck balls. The chances please?

not sure yet, stupididty is part of the tabletop rules for dumb animals, so it wont be a DE only thing. it is supposed to only last untill the first combat, at which point it is removed. so i would expect something along the lines of 10-15%? we would have to play with it to get it balanced.

Ok, that sounds fair, not good, but fair. It also makes sense to have a promo that does somethin like this.

Awesome selection of units. Absolutely awesome. :goodjob:

Frenzy may be a problem as well. It only lasts 75%, which may mean that in the six turns it takes to get them into combat there is a good chance that when they arrive at their first combat the promotion will be lost. Is "subject to frenzy" recurrable?

Man those heroes are munters. Maybe make some of their nonequipment actual equipment with lesser effect when they are slain? (when the hero dies, equipment is created, so your hero can pick them up as trophies. And limit the equipment they can carry to 3 or something). Maybe the AI wont handle that too well. Ah well.

Wow, I cant wait until my fav civs are done and they get a list like this. Wow... :D

I agree. Makin it last til combat might be better. Or make it work like "Burnin Blood" in FfH.

Well, FfH has somethin like that. They found a way to make the AI use the equipment. I'm sure ya could steal their code. (Specially since there is at least one or two people who work on both WH and FfH in this thread.)

this seems like a good idea, but if it lasts untill the end of the first comabt it renders the blitz effect useless, as they cannot attack again... beacuse its lost. thats the main reason i didnt say lasts untill end of first combat. subject to frenzy is a permanent promo which will always have a chance of adding the frenzied promo to the unit every turn, so if it DOES run out before combat it could be fairly likely to get it again when they are nearer the enemy. :)

well, the only non equipment is the armour of the witch king, and this is for a very important reason: mainly that the armour is welded onto malekiths flesh. the armour IS malekith :p plus i dont want a billion bits of equipment roaming the world, as they would be too common, as it is i had to debate with myself whether i wanted the amber amulet to be equipment or not.

Sweet. Cant wait to test the new stuff when it arrives... Any chance of a tiny teaser? :D

Is it possible that instead of having a billion bits of equipment, there is a high % chance (say 90%) of the equipment/promo being destroyed on the heroes death? That way you maybe have the slight offchance (10%) to get trophies. Makes hunting down those heroes exciting and rewarding. I suppose you would have to create extra art for the euipment though, so maybe not.

im not working on the DE or HE at present, thats ploeps job, so sorry, no teasers for the moment :p

i actually had thought about equipment having a chance of being either destroyed or 'lost' Ie giving it to a barbarian unit and giving that unit the hero promotion,

and new equipment art is no problem, in fact i have a sword of khaine and altar of khaine in the works, just need to testure it (which im finding quite a challenge, getting good looking blood is hard)

Awesome Black Guard btw ploerp. (In civ4 download database).

I believe that creating 8-15 UU's for each civ is a bad idea because it makes things difficult to load, view, and program. I think a few overarching promotions is a better idea. Right now, the only "distinctive" DE units are the cold one knights and the corsair assault troops (plus maybe the monsters, but they should share those with certain other armies). I recommend keeping the graphics as army specific, but making the units generic (except for their promotions). The UU's that you probably ought to add are black arcs plus a sea dragon type unit. I see black arcs as having enormous cargo capacity (so it can transport slaves back to Naggaroth) and it should be oceanfaring (unlike the ironclad type it is right now). Also, black arcs should probably be available earlier because they are pretty much critical for transporting slaves which is the core of DE strategy. Witch Elves could be a berserker unit also encompassing flagellants, troll slayers, plague monks, and perhaps ogres (they would probably all have the same stats civ-wise plus the "frenzied" promotion).

sidenote: I really want a carrier type unit. Perhaps a ship which launches harpies or manticores...

second sidenote: I would be happy to help make the mod in any way I could. I don't think I have the graphics software to make the artwork, but I know some programming and I could write flavor text and the like.

Many UUs are actually more an interfaceissue than a programmingissue. The way UUs work in civ makes them quite easy to implement.

We'ed definitly appreciate help of any kind. If you know programming I could definitly use help debugging as I'm no real programmer(will post fresh sourcefiles with next patch for BTS 3.17). for texts most pressing I'd consider missing diplotext, as I'm no native english speaker I just such at this kind of tasks.
