Dear Firaxis, your game is crashing on almost every platform

Because I play so many hours that you could call that an addiction. That's why the bugs and crashes bother me so much. Am I not allowed to criticise the people who could (but don't) eliminate the bugs?

I think I understand: Besides all those bugs and crashes that are bothering you, you still love this game.

Not acceptable, I agree with you.

My experience is different however: I always play on huge maps, and on Windows 10 I will get the occasional crash (sometimes after 30 minutes, sometimes not a crash in 3 hours), and on Linux I did not get one single crash ever yet.

This is what happens to me too on pc. It's occasionally, BUT, before the last patch it never crashed.

What alternate timeline am I posting from? The game crashed a lot on xbox for me but hasn’t once since the crash, and my iPhone version never has

Similarilu my modded Skyrims and Fallouts almost never crash

Are my electronics actually Decepticons or something? Is my house built atop buried North Central Positronics tech? Someone should investigate this anomaly

Well, on PC it is getting close to being seriously aggravating - every single game will crash in one of 2 ways:
A - Poof to desktop. Just vanishes during the turn change with no warning or alerts. It is recoverable, reload & select 'resume game' but that is not the point.
B - Total lockup at turn change. This one is by far the worst because it requires me to launch Task Manager, select the allegedly 'running' Civ6 application & close it from Task Manager by literally forcing a reboot.
Simply selecting 'end process' not only fails to work, it causes the lockup to bite even harder to the point where the soft reboot is no longer an option & I have to literally forcibly restart from the little switch on the case.
This is seriously bloody irritating.

honestly, I’m not getting these problemes at all… in fact, everytime I had lockups or crashes in the past, they were reproducable starting with a save I had and were resolved by turning off a certain mod…

wonder if it’s a mod you have, or if your specific PC config plays into it… or even you grapgic card drivers,,,

good luck finding the troubles

i always play huge maps… well always lately i’ve gotten to play a few standard size maps for speed, but most of my 2500+ of play are on huge

I want to get this game on PC for mods but there is no way I could tolerate this nonsense

I play Civ6 (vanilla, got it free on EGS) on a 2010 PC and never got a crash, I don't even remember if i got a crash at start of the game life. So I'm wondering if you guys don't have too powerful/recent PCs. :D (that the game couldn't handle because it's not updated for a while now)

I had crashes on the Nintendo Switch but not on PC.

I'm playing huge maps on the XBox One and it's crashing at least every turn, sometimes twice a turn.

How much time between turns?

Vanilla works fine. It’s the expansions that mess things up. They released many dlc with frontier and rushed it. Never really fully tested it. It’s the same thing on all platforms.

They literally milked the game into oblivion.

It’s a bloody disgrace

There are no mods for consoles

I play vanilla on my PC. It's an i7-8700k with 32GB RAM and a GTX 2070. Epic speed large map. Game crashes at random, just freezes up at the end of a turn with music still playing. Generates crash report which I send, then desktop. This seems to be in the last year really, it was never this bad. I stopped playing for a while so can't remember when the last patch was, but this is really ridiculous for a game franchise of this stature at this stage of development.

This is to say nothing of all the balance/barbarian/speed scaling/&c. issues that have been introduced or never addressed since release - will restrict myself to this one sentence on the subject so as not to derail. But honestly the crashing issue is beyond all that - not only ruining the fun that might be left in this game, but removing my confidence in 2K and Firaxis in their ability to offer an enjoyable and stable, playable game in the future.

I still play Civ VI, largely because I don't now have the time to really learn a new game and I just want to sit down and play something familiar. But I often ask myself, Why I am still playing this garbage? Isn't there something better out there that isn't too much like work to learn? Apparently not, lol.

Sure people say they won't buy the next game. But people like me, players who have been with Civ for 20+ years, some of us are really over it by now. No way I'm gonna buy the next one or anything else from 2K or Firaxis if this is the state in which Civ VI is allowed to remain.

Fix it! At least fix the basic functionality of having a playable game!

@Mithadan
I was curious for a game on a huge map, how much time do you wait between the end of your turn and the beginning of your next turn.

This is for everyone who is trying to tell me it is all my fault.
1. I have the fully expanded version with all DLC on 2 platforms - Steam Windows 10 PC and PS4 Pro.
Both versions suffer from the dreaded 'end of turn freeze' and there are no mods on PS4 so bang goes that argument.
On the PS4 this problem is guaranteed to occur on any Large or Huge map size, and is more likely to occur the more exploration you have done. It feels like either a memory leak or a graphics problem.
EOT takes longer with each passing turn and with more of the map revealed it scales to even slower until you get to a point where it locks up tighter than a Duck's bum.
At this point you have to close the app, relaunch it and limp through a few more turns until it happens again.
Rinse, restart & repeat until bored with it.

2. My windows 10 PC has no issues with anything else except CIV6.
Graphics drivers fully up to date, 32GB RAM with 16GB Video RAM, 1Tb SSD C drive with added HDD for data and storage internally, so please stop telling me it is my PC.
It is worse with some game modes enabled but - and this is important - it happens on each and every game I play, game modes enabled or not.
On PC there is an additional crash, where the game simply disappears to desktop again at the turn end, seemingly at random. This implies a serious memory leak to me where things are not being cleared properly and is almost certainly bad programming.
On a personal note it seems to me the peak of coding quality was back in Windows XP time. Since memory became almost limitless, RAM requirements have gone skywards at an alarming rate yet the quality of the coding has gone in the opposite direction it seems.
My specs grossly exceed the recommended system specs too.

3. This all started after the last of the NFP updates.
Before that things were just fine.

That's strange. I have it on the Switch, and I've just done two Huge Earth TSL games, I think it crashed maybe twice between them? Plus I managed to screw up the game once so I had to reload a save (I mention it because it only happened due to poor coding). The first game went to 210 turns, the second got to 1890 on Standard speed (I don't remember the number of turns), and were fine.

I've also found that speeds were better after NFP. That's not to say that they're good now, but better. I can't go downstairs, make a sandwich, come back and find that it's still processing the turn anymore.

I find it strange that the PS4 would struggle more than the Switch, and your PC is even more strange.

@Linklite Huge TSL maps on the Switch...got damn! How much you time you waited between turns? I already think that max 2 minutes between turns on my Switch on Standard map is too much!
