Death of an Empire

During the course of the two Greco-Iroquois war, General Civantor has been sharpening the sword that is the Southern Army Group. Many critics of the Iroquois war machine were wondering what use the Southern Army Group has with calvary and cannon. After all, there has not been a threat since the Zulus were driven off of the continent.

The American Island off the west coast has never posed a real threat to the Iroquois people, but have been getting a little uppity lately. President Lincoln has been demanding more and more in trade for his gems. Civantor wanted to end Iroquois dependence upon the Americans for the precious stones by seizing the mines for the Iroquois people. Some speculate that he was just tied of the glory and praise given to the Generals and men of the Eastern and Northern Army Groups. It is about time that respect is given to the SAG, the true victors of the Zulu Wars.

Upon receiving approval from Salamanca, Civantor loads up his troops onto his Galleys and sets sail for America. The first troops land north of Buffalo and take the city with minimal loses. A storm rages at sea causing a delay in reinforcements. Lincoln, knowing that he can not let the SAG gain a solid foothold, sees his chance. American knight throw themselves against the Iroquois forces in Buffalo, wave after wave of American horsemen try to deny the Iroquois their much needed foothold. As the day drags on, it is looking grimmer and grimmer for the Iroquois defenders. Suddenly the attacking American knights flee from the battlefield as shells from the Frigates and Ironclads of the First Fleet explode. The reinforcements have arrived, the Invasion is saved. General Civantor steps ashore to the cheers of the tired attackers turned defenders and orders his fresh troops onwards to Chicago.

General Civantor knows that his war is already won. America has no iron, saltpeter or horses of her own and must rely on trade for those resources. Iroquois was the prime supply but no longer. The ships of the First Fleet are at this moment, blockading American ports, the Americans are isolated.

As troops march towards Chicago, another two galley unload troops near Houston, isolating that fine city from the rest of the country. The Iroquois forces do not even bother setting up the cannon to fire upon Houston, they just charge and take the city with the lose of only 1 calvary regiment.

General Civantor sets up camp overlooking the city of Chicago. He orders his cannon to set up and to begin firing upon the city. In the morning he prepares his troops for the assault. The SAG rolls through Chicago and before lunch, Chicago has fallen. Two gem mines are now in Iroquois hands. An American officer rides to the gates of Chicago under a white flag of truce. Civantor meets with him to discuss terms of the American surrender. The Iroquois Government is always ready to hear terms but General Civantor does not even send the terms back to Salamanca for approval. The Americans refuse to part with the city of San Francisco, so the war goes on.

The two prongs of the SAG’s invasion force converge on San Francisco, they are met with an imposing sight. Lining San Fran’s defenses and in fortified positions in front of the city are crack American Riflemen. Apparently, the Americans no longer need saltpeter and the Battle of San Francisco will be harder then the other three cities put together. [map of the region will be available as soon as it is approved by the Iroquois Military.]

General Civantor knows that the Battle for San Francisco will be the crowning achievement of the invasion, to date. If San Fran falls, then the Iroquois will gain two more gem mines and a solid defensive position and thus an almost permanent presence on the small continent. Plus the First Fleet could use the Franciscan Canal to get from north to south, without having to sail around Buffalo Point.

The First Fleet begins shelling San Francisco while the SAG’s cannon shell the rifle troops in front. After close to 12 hours of shelling, the calvary is given the word to charge. The American troops, after receiving hell all day, return the favor to the 1st and 2nd Calvary regiments, the heros of Buffalo. The tide of battle swings to the Americans but a colonel of the 2nd Calvary, Tecmseh, rallies his troops and steals the day. The SAG takes the San Francisco suburbs, but at a cost. The 1st and 4th Calvary regiments are no more and the 2nd is no longer a front-line unit. Colonel Tecmseh is promoted on the spot and ordered back to the mainland for more troops.

As the SAG cannon’s add their shells to those fired by the First Fleet, San Francisco becomes a deathtrap. Fires burn out of control as Iroquois sharpshooters pick off American troops. Civantor finally lets loose the reigns and the SAG charges San Francisco in force. After the constant shelling, the fight had gotten out of most of the American defenders with the lose of 2 more Iroquois Calvary Regiments. As General Civantor surveys the city, he is surprised that the city barracks are still intact. Now his troops due not have to rush back to Buffalo to recuperate.

SAG’s cannons move up into the mountains due west of the city to counter any counter attack from Atlanta while 3 Calvary Regiments, led by the 3rd Calvary, and the 7th Rifles march south and capture the City of Seattle. Atlanta is now the last city before the SAG can flood into the fertile American heartland.

The defenders of Atlanta, are none other than refugees from San Francisco and Seattle. The best of the American troops were sent for the defense of San Francisco. All that is left in Atlanta is obsolete Pikemen which pose almost no obstacle to the raging Iroquois hoards. Atlanta falls, the easiest of the five captured American cities.

General Civantor brings his forces up to Atlanta and plans his next move. Lincoln now knows that he is in a fight to the death and begins searching for aid. Will help arrive in time to save the American Civilization?

As General Civantor crushes the American forces, General Das meets with the new General of the Northern Army Group, General Knas. The two Gernerals are busy making preparations for the eventual wars with Greece and England.

As they make their arrangements, they recieve word that the Greek city of Knossos, has once again changed hands.

"It is nice waching the Greeks and English kill each other," says General Knas.

"Yep," replies Das. "It will make our victory all that much easier. After all, our troops will be fresh and led by true Iroquois leaders. We must get involved in this conflict while there is still some of Greece left."

With that there is a knock on the door. "A message from Prime Minster Campbell in Salamanca."

General Das takes the dispatch and reads it to himself.

"Well, sir. What does it say?"

__

The English and Greeks continue to fight with the English slowly gaining the upper hand. The English have enticed the Indians, Chinese and Zulu Nations to declare war on Greece. Although the Zulu's will be of no help seeing as how all their ships seem to get sunk by privateers that can be found along the Coast of the Zulu Island. Unaware of Chinese and Indian activities in regards to the war. Their troops have not shown up on the continet but Greek overseas colonies are disappearing.

All civilzations, with the exceptions of the Americans, are engaged in the Iroquois lead trade embargo against Greece.

Some screen shots will be up shortly. As soon as I get home and take them, that is.

Southern Army Group General Civantor was sitting with with his officers in the captured American city of Atlanta planning out the next phase of the invasion when a messanger arrived from Salamanca.

Civantor reads the message, "It looks like no more reinforcements for us. General Das and Knas' forces are being strengthened for a renewed attack against Greece."

Civantor orders his troops to advance on New York. The fighting is expected to be light since most of the American troops were destroyed in the Battle of San Francisco. Sure enough, as the SAG calvary regiments, New York is overrun. A few regiments must return to Atlanta for recupertation but the remining regiments split up to lay seige to Boston and Washington.

The Iroquios troops arrive at the seaside city of Boston, which was been under constant bombardment by ships of the First Fleet. The Iroquois troops decide to charge the city defenders, expecting that the naval bombardment has been effective in reducing the American defences. It is a costly mistake as the Iroquois suffer huge losses, but in the end, the sheer numbers of attacking troops carry the day and Boston falls to the might of the Iroquois people.

As the other half of the SAG marches towards Washington and are met with fierce resistance. Archaic pikmen but up a couragous fight and might have carried the day except a young Iroquois brave, Red Cloud, leads a tired rifle regiment into the city and takes the capital.

Three healthy calvary regiments ride north to Philadelphia, the last American city which has also been bombarded since the fall of Atlanta by more ships of the First Fleet. The regiments arrive and see that the city is being protected by a recently drafted rifle regiment and charge. The Americans destroy the 2 elite Calvary units and weaken the veteran unit. As the the unit limps back to Atlanta, it is attacked by the last remaining American knigt regiment and destroyed. Lincoln sends an envoy to Civantor for peace but the envoy is shot down approaching the lines.

General Civantor is upset over the loss of three of his top regiments and orders an all out attack. All units of the American Invasion forces of the SAG move out and eventually overwhelm Philadelphia. The Americans are defeated.

As the General walks through the streets of the once grand city, he is immensly pround of his troops. Two great leaders arose from this invasion. Red Cloud is at this moment heading back to the mainland and will either help in the construction of the Iron Works or wait until another wonder becomes available. Civantor picks up the message lying in the mud to see what the American would have offered for peace: 80 Gold and 33 GPT. He took 130 from the vaults at Philadelphia.

Scholars notes: pardon any spelling mistakes, doing this on site this time and no spell check. :( As the SAG marches on Boston and Washington, the Eastern and Northern Army Groups initiate a combined assault on the Greek cities of Sparta and (can't recall the other city at this time.) The Third Greco-Iroquios war will be retold later, probably tomorrow.

As General Das, the greatest hero of his time, was planning a cunning plan on defeating the Greeks, he noticed 2 suspicious men. They attacked him with the most modern rifles, while General Das didn't had any weapons with him. He quickly took one of them, and dropped him into the window, taking his rifle, and killing another assasin with it. The assasins were certainly Greeks. After going out, and killing 5,000,000 more Greek assasins.

--------------------

Well, actually this is all just an iformation provided by Das' personal Staff of Lying to Other People.

The Iroquois High Command was not pleased when word arrived from Athens about the assassination attempt on General Das in the former Greek Capital. "Our response needs to be swift and final," says Prime Minister Campbell. "Send the word. I am sure that General Das would seek the appropriate remedies."

As General Civantor marches towards Washington, General Das receives word to extract his idea on revenge towards the Greek People. Thus the Iroquois Republic resumes was against the evil Greek Empire. Greece continues to fight the combined forces of England, Perisa and China and thus is in no way prepared for the mighty Eastern Army Group.

The Eastern Army group charges into Greece towards the Newly Established Greece Capital of Sparta. Seeing the invading force, the Greeks pull there forces in to protect the capital. The Greeks are dumbfounded as the EAG passes Sparta and moves onwards towards Delphi. General Das waves to the Greek defenders as he marches into the mountains north of the city. The Greeks cannot believe that the great General Das made the mistake of leaving his supply lines vulnerable and quickly move to cut them.

As the Greek forces move out of Athens to harass the EAG, general Knas and the Northern Army Group comes streaming across the frontier. As cannon batteries set up to lay siege to Sparta, the calvary regiments lay waste to the Greek Army. The remnants of the Greek Army, unable to break the lines to return to Sparta must trek north, pass the EAG to get to Delphi or run the English gauntlet to reinforce Ephesus.

With the destruction of the Greek army, General Das is able to march right in and seize Delphi. Leaving a small peace keeping force, the EAG continues its advance and marches through English territory to lay siege to Ephesus. After Delphi falls, and days of shelling Athens, the NAG advances. General Knas leads the first wave of calvary which succeeds in breaching the cities defenses. The Greeks manage to stop the assault and begin to counterattack but are met with the second wave of calvary regiments and the battle is done. The Greek Empire is reduced to one city. Ephesus located in the far north.

Alexander, after surviving the destruction of his army on the grasslands of Athens flees to Ephesus. There he meets with envoys from all his attackers. England, Persia and China all agree to peace. The Iroquois Republic refuses to meet with Alexander and Das is allowed to finish his campaign.

The siege and Battle of Ephesus can hardly be called either. General Das arrives at the city with an army of 6 elite calvary regiments and other regiments. The Greek defense consists of a lone pikeman. Das makes short work of the Greek city and drags Alexander back to Salamanca to stand trial for his crimes against the Iroquois people.

General Das, knowing that the EAG has no more work to be done on the continent, baring an invasion by another civilization, begins working with the Second Fleet on the construction of transports to sail his glorious armies off to foreign land. For the present, he lends the use of his cannon to General Knas, who will bring them to bare on the English, the last threat to continental dominance.

COntinue, please!

After the siege at Ephesus, General Das established the new HQ of EAG at Sparta.

-----------------

"Well, everything went according to plan! And with Greece out of our way, my popularity will increase even farther!" - General Das.

-----------------

What I mean is, that after death of Prime Minister Campbell, General Das will be on elections, and after his military victories, to the roquois people he is like real history's Grant for AMerican people. So he is one of candidates, and a possible winner. Well, sealman will decide will be General Das the new Prime Minister!

As recorded by the Priests of the Order of the Seal.

The time shortly after the Fall of Greece and America, the world experienced a short period of peace. The English were upset with the Iroquois people, for reasons still unclear. The two were allies a few short years earlier. The English and Chinese empires were tied together in a MPP. The Iroquois were allied in similar agreements with Zululand. Russia recently signed a MPP with China.

As tensions between England and Iroquios deteriorated, armies began to fortify positions along the borders. Queen Elizabeth catches the Iroquios in acts of espionage and declare war. Iroquois retaliates by attacking the English possessin of Knossos. China declares war on Iroquios. An English counterattack forces Zulu to stand beside Iroquios against the spitefull ***** in London.

Prime Minister Campbell seeks allies and reaches a MPP with Russia, who promply declares war on England, but could not get anyother civilization to lend material support. Egypt sides with England, although decides to pursue her war on the economic level by agreeing to an embargo on Iroquois goods. The Rupublic responds with embargos against Egypt wtih Russia, France, Babylonia, and India. The embargos also cover England. France and India agree to embargos against China.

Persia remains steadfeast in its Isolationist Belief and signs no pacts with either side. War clouds continue to build. Iroquiois military leaders believe that the war will be fought in English lands or lands formally occupied by Greece. The rest of the world watches and waits.

Perisan immortals are seen in the Northern reaches of the continent, regiment(s) remaining forces left on the mainland for reasons known only to Persia.

General Das sat in the rectory at the Bach Cathedral, in Athens, looking over maps of the recent Iroquois offensive. That offensive resulted in the destruction of the evil Greek civilization, all the remains being the current Cathedral in which General Das now waits.

General Knas walks in, "Good morning General."

"Good morning Knas. Is all in place?"

"Yes sir, I just received word before I left Knossos. Briarwood is finally in place and providing information to the Queen."

"What of that spy we discovered in the employ of Minister Campbell."

"He is still in place and providing inside information to England. But now it is what we wish to provide. General Cortez of the Homeland Defensive Army is ready to seize him, at your command of course."

"Cortez is a good man. Knows his place. He also believes that Campbell is turning soft, what with his ‘peace’ offerings to Alexander and Lincoln."

"Well, General, if all goes according to plan, Campbell will be gone and Reisbach will be in place. Are you sure that you can control Reisbach?"

"Don’t worry about Reisbach, he is firmly behind us."

"What of General Civantor and his army? Will he be with us or against us?"

"Civantor knows his job and does it well. He will attack the enemies of the Iroquois people, whomever they may be."

___

Queen Elizabeth reads the dispatches in front of her. "Are you sure that this information is reliable?" "Yes," responds the Foreign Minister, "We have confirmed it through other sources. The Iroquois plan to topple your reign and insert a puppet monarch. We expect it to be Mary of the Scots."

"Arrest Mary and attack the Iroquois!"

___

As the English forces cross the frontier and move on Hasting and Knossos, the loyal Russian government stands by her pact, and declares war on the invading English. The English armies, after studying the successful tactics of the Iroquois armies except the surprise attack to overwhelm the standard defenders. As they march to Hastings and Knossos, they are met, not by raw recruits they expected, but by the crack veteran and elite units of the Northern Army Group. The attack is crushed and the NAG launches their counterattacks. Group A sweeps out of Hastings in the north, picking off wounded English calvary and march to York. Group B floods the plains and lays siege to Nottingham. Both army groups, supported by cannons of the NAG and EAG make short work of the defenders and York and Nottingham fall with low Iroquois casualties.

As the NAG marches towards London, the Eastern Army Group sends its calvary regiments in the northern reaches of the Province of Greece and take the English outposts of Argos and Warwick. Those two English cities are no match for the overwhelming numbers thrown against them. The Province of Greece is now fully in Iroquois hands.

The NAG moves out of the captured English cities and march towards London, and her elephant herds. As the two army groups come together, the English see a hole in the line and charge. A pair of English calvary units breakthrough and re-take the city of York (the first Iroquois controlled city ever to fall to attacking forces). Before they have time to send for reinforcements, the gab between the two groups closing. York is isolated but the NAG does not turn around. They continue to march towards London. As York begins to prepare for yet another Iroquois attack, it comes from the east, not west as expected. The EAG, straight from the mountains sweep down and rout the English defenders. York is once again in Iroquois hands.

As General Knas begins his siege of the English capital, General Civantor of the Southern Army Groups loads up his army into the Galleons of the First Fleet. 6 elite Calvary regiments, 4 veteran Rifle regiments, 6 Veteran Calvary regiments and 2 cannon batteries set sail from Philadelphia - destination unknown.

After pounding the defenders of London, Knas lets loose his calvary. Wave after wave of Iroquois calvary are thrown back by the valiant English. Reinforcements from the EAG arrive on the scene and join the ranks of the dead on the farmland outside of London. As night falls on the field, the Iroquois armies are poised for a final assault on the city. As Generals Das and Knas plan the operation, Queen Elizabeth and her royal bodyguards flee the city. As dawn breaks, London is in chaos. The Iroquois throw their last units at the city and London falls. The Bloody Battle of London is over. Many brave Iroquois warriors lie dead on the field.

Word comes to the Generals as the tour Copernicus’ Observatory. The English have asked for peace and Campbell agrees. A smile comes to Das’ lips as he thinks about what is happening in Salamanca.

___

Word of the Peace Treaty reaches the citizens at Salamanca at the same time as Homeland troops rush the private residence of Prime Minister Campbell. It is revealed that Campbell’s long time aide is in fact an English agent. Prime Minister Campbell resigns in disgrace and Reisbach takes over. A few ministers protest and General Cortez promptly escorts them out of he room; for some private interviews.

Reisbach moves to the balcony where the citizens of Salamanca await word.. "My people, my comrades. The Republic has failed you. They refuse to acknowledge the glory that is the Iroquois Nation. They refuse to let the military rid the world of those who wish you harm! The English have attacked us and yet the Republic wants peace. China declares war and the Ministers refuse to allow us to attack. Now the military will decide how to fight our wars. For the good of all the Iroquois! Victory will be ours!"

The crowd erupts in applause, the bloodless coup is over. General Knas rearms his forces and prepared for the second invasion of England. General Das returns to the capital of the Province of Greece and follows Civantor’s example. He begins to add transport ships to the Second Fleet. The Russian allies may need some assistance against the Egyptians or Babylonians.

But what of General Civantor and the Southern Army Group? Will they fight with the revolutionaries or for the Republic?? Where are they???

Historical Note:

The Iroquois agent in London, Biarwood, was never identified. Some scholars believe that it was the English Foreign Minister was Briadwood. It has not been proven one way or another but after the siege of London, he was found in the dungeons of the London Castle, with a nice clean bullet hole through the back of his head.

Das smiled, as he looked at "Iroquois Chronicle" - the most important Iroquios Newspaper, with picture of Reisbach in middle of his speech showing his personal rifle and "Cohrane's Knife", the symbol of Iroquois Military to the cheerful crowd.

"Ah, those silies! They really thing that Reisbach is the true ruler of their nation! While every part of his speech is prepared by me, Das! So everythign is going according to plan!"

"Yes" - smiled Knas - "and we are the rulers of Iroquois! So who will be our first target?"
