[R&F] December Update Video Thread

It looks like they datamined the least used policy cards and decided to buff them (which is good obviously to add diversity).
But I wonder if they also changed the truly broken cards like Public Transport.
I only use it for 1 turn and only in my science games, but it is still broken.
Don't really need to datamine anything to know that raj and strategos is useless

If you have suzerainty of enough city-states, Raj can be quite impactful in the midgame.

So many games I have used Raj and the Yields are insane.

I use Raj in basically every game. Pretty easy to get +10 yields (or more) if you play your cards right.

Pun totally intended, right? :mischief:

I would agree in using Raj a lot since I try to get Suzerain status as often as possible. In some cases its not just to get the bonus, but also to deny it from someone else; especially if the CS is close by and a potential levy target for an agressor.

It was fine: it wasn't the version with the didgeridoos. :p I have nothing against "Waltzing Matilda"; I just really, really dislike the didgeridoo. I'm sure it's a lovely instrument; it just makes me very uncomfortable--like queasy stomach and tingling spine uncomfortable. :(

Make the mistake of listening to a bagpipe played indoors in a relatively small room (a bar, to be exact). After that, nothing else musical will ever bother you again, and you will understand why the British Army in the 18th century classified the bagpipe as an "instrument of war" and not a musical instrument!

I love bagpipes, but I can't say I've ever listened to them in a small room. :p Might want to stick to a penny whistle or fiddle in the pub. :p

I’m afraid I’ve lost track: are we expecting an as-yet-unrevealed new game mode with this free update or are they skipping that this month?

Or the more restrained uilleann or Northumbrian pipes!

They haven't added new game modes every update. So they won't be sneaking one into this one since they didn't announce it in the video. But some people feel they like to tease future changes, so trying to read into some actions in the video thinking they might hint at what comes in the future updates.

Thanks!

There has more or less been a game mode each month though, although the shuffle mode and the Red Death expansion were obviously smaller scale than the Pirates and paid DLC game modes. This is why I wasn’t sure.

May: Apocalypse
June: Red Death season 2
July: Secret Societies
August: Tech and Civic Shuffle
September: Dramatic Ages
October: Pirates
November: Heroes

I like the 15 pop requirement for rationalism. I know some don't like the hard cutoff at 15 pop, but there are other hard cutoffs in cities too - amenities and the number of allowable districts.
Allowable districts increases by 1 unit at a time, you don't get +50% more districts when you hit X pop and nothing more. Amenity requirements also increase by one unit at a time in the same way.

Thanks!

Red Death season 2 was more of an update to the existing Scenario while Pirates was also a scenario, not a game mode.

No I don't think we were told we would get a new scenario/game mode every month though.

Thanks all for the Raj support... When I read that comment, I was like ??? UGH ??? It's pretty much one of the staples in my games.... But then again, I always play huge maps and always play the CS game... I guess playing on a small or even normal map would make Raj pretty tame, yes...

Even on a normal map, I find that I can routinely be allied with 5+ CS. Even with less, it's still usually better than the straight +1 gold per envoy card. I mean, even if you value each non-gold yield at 2 gold, then Raj is worth the equivalent of 14 gold per suzerain. Even if you're only allied with 1/3 of the CS out there, you need to average 4-5+ envoys per CS. And obviously, you can still often run both cards.

Some games it won't help, sure, but I find most of the time it's a nice little boost to yields. And obviously some games I simply don't have the policy slots to make a good use of it, since there are better cards too. But count me in as another supporter for it.

I do wish that on both it and the wonder picker that they let you save the config. I'd find it more useful if I could simply permanently remove some natural wonders (or city-states) and have that persist.

What I did was pick all the valid wonders I want in my game (24 of them), and save that map configuration. Then, each time I start a new game, load that pre-made config, select map size and type, civs, and remember to change the random seed. It's a little cumbersome; but less so than having to reselect the natural wonders each time.
