Deity Challenge - Pangea

@StampyDodo

Spoiler :
Nice to see more players join.
Care to explain why you wanted to "forget the tests" in the herbalists event? Free health means you can sell more health resources getting more money.

You can upload a save via attachments. Click the bracket symbol when "going advanced".

In case anyone wonders what's going on with my game; I'll play until lib as soon as I finish that Dual Install...

@mystyfly

Spoiler :
Can you explain how this works exactly? Would I have gotten free health on every city I have and will control or just the one city that I had during the time of the tests? I was under the impression it was just the cities you have at the time of the tests, which seemed not to be worth stunting my growth with the -population and -happiness penalties.

@StampyDodo
Free health for all times in all cities. One of the strongest events in the game :D especially when you do not want to grow your capital early

@ stampyDodo
Spoiler :
All cities forever...

... as you're building settlers...

Well in the future ill make the correct decision, I guess I just assumed it was not in every city you will control in the future because it would make the event too strong.

Up to lib:

Spoiler :
Now finally picking up the game again. What do we have here? GL. Lots of cities. The northernmost not placed optimall, add to the trouble tightly squeezed by ham and SB. SBs stupid city adds -2 for close borders. Bad. Further we have 2 cities which haven't been growing for ages due to lack of chain irrigation and plantations.
Techwise isn't looking so good. We're learning CoL in 2 turns at least. Will bulb philo asap and tech CS. Seem to have popped silver in capital BFC :woohoo:. GP generation has been neglected for far too long. Running 2 scis though.
Ham is conf (founder), SB and monty buddhist, other civs (including me) hindu. AP is hindu. Hindu only in one city. Bad.

I didn't take notes, only a couple of screens and memory :p

Well, philo bulbed sometime and backfilling. Tao has been founded a couple of turns ago, by ham.

Monty is being dogpiled by Biz, Hann and Louis. He later surrenders to Biz.

I later get the classical literature quest! Need 7 libraries. Have 5 cities (all have libraries). Switch the two stagnating (gold) cities to settlers. I really want that free scientist.

Just after I finished CS, SB turns up. He has CS already but lacks philo (the only one lacking it besides monty but he doesn't count right?) so I give in to sell philo.
Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

I get around 300-400g for philo I think.

BtS 3.17 really spawns more barb galleys:
Civ4ScreenShot0003.jpg

As you can see, this turn I found the two cities needed for the quest. Libraries are chop-whipped (it still takes 12 turns...).

Great, more cultural pressure from Ham...
Civ4ScreenShot0004-1.jpg

Hann seems to think I'm puny or something and has mercy (I accepted, this counts to WFYABTA, right? Doesn't matter, hit it with most leaders already anyway :D)
Civ4ScreenShot0005-1.jpg

780AD, the two whipped libraries finish:
Civ4ScreenShot0008.jpg

And I even get a nice RE on the same turn :goodjob:
Civ4ScreenShot0009-1.jpg

This really was a good turn for HRE research.

The Greatest Civilizations cheer me up instead of depressing me for a change. Nice :D
Civ4ScreenShot0010.jpg

920AD, Lib finally nailed. I only bulbed philo, lib and edu once, plus built an academy in Aachen. That's 4 GS this session.

940AD I take PP. Nat would cost more beakers but PP is on the way to rifles and has more trade value (only biz has it while nat is generally known to everyone who matters, besides me ;)
Civ4ScreenShot0012-1.jpg

I stop here. Techscreen:
Civ4ScreenShot0013-1.jpg

Not too encouraging but no huge hole. As you can see, both biz and louis got lib one turn after me
Also note Biz, SB and Han are in WFYABTA, Biz is friendly, Hann close to friendly. I can sign a DP with Han at friendly if I like. Monty is my tech selling machine. Too bad SB is in WFYABTA he lacks several techs but would have several to offer, guilds, gunpowder, engineering and chemistry. SB is was pleased with the +4 "trade relations" (+3 comes from selling philo; accepting his demand and selling got me +4 :goodjob:). Also note Biz has SciMeth. And astro. He also circumnavigated (as if it mattered). Hann just finished PP.
I'm currently teching Guilds, not sure if I should trade for it. I don't get good offers and it isn't terribly expensive. I'll be able to sell it to louis.

Overview (cap, empire):
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0014-1.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0015-1.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0016-1.jpg

Further notes: I plan on attacking either Ham or Hann. Currently focusing EPs on both. As you can see in the screenie I can see no one's demos :crazyeye:. As there are many cities with few food resources and drama obtained quite late (pretty far away from globe) I don't think I'll be drafting much. I hope to be able to capture a couple of cities though. Probabely switch to caste to run merchants in Aachen after the next GS (for chemistry) pops. I also really need to switch to buero and HR. I didn't dare spend turns in anarchy due to tight lib race. So the next GS would probabely be better used for a GAge.

Comments greatly appreciated :goodjob:

How do you run bug mod when the starting save file isn't using bug mod?

I always get this screen.

The save file you have selected requires the following mod to be loaded: NONE, the application must restart, ok?

I also reached the 1 AD milestone...

Spoiler :
Overall, the game is proceeding good. There are some wars going on (France+Aztecs against Bull) and the thanks to the different rel. groups and lots of aggressive AIs (=more units) the overall techspeed is low in this game.

Only Germyany kan keep up with us techwise, but they will start falling back soon, when we begin to lbulb
View attachment 183818

Not much happened near our capital, we just recently found the first costal fillercity there
View attachment 183819

Most of our science and production comes form what we have taken from Hanni, the GL and the NE are also in Carthage
View attachment 183820

If you wonder how I managed to tech that fast... ...the solution is easy... ...the warbounty allowed me to get Aest really early and I decided to hoard it untill the first AI was willing to trade math... ...and I used the time to build the SoZ and The Panth untill 1 turn from completion, spilling in about 600 gold when the AI finally built them. Additionally, I was second to CoL and received altogheter another 200 gold for selling it together with lit for techs and money, allowing me to research more or less always on 100% from then on

Think the game is won. Maybe I´ll try something different in this game, to keep it interresting... ...or maybe I just quit:lol:

1520AD-end
Spoiler :

It's some time since i finished this, i had hoped some more players would play it beyond 1000 AD so i waited with my update, anyway here is how it all ended.

Developed my empire, got approx tech parity and beat the others to computers. Finish internet and am now world leader in this respect This was only the beginning of my problems:

cultural-problems-1868.jpg

I responded with this:

stack1.jpg

Stack2.jpg

Stack3.jpg

That's the problem with cultural vics, you get behind in techs so i've got a military advantage over Han now who doesn't have MA's.

He's got to defend with this:

Defence.jpg

Take Utica next turn and raze it, Later on i bribe Bismarck to join against Han, and settle for peace myself 1880 AD.

I'm not out of the woods yet cultural situation 1913 AD

cultural-1913.jpg

So:

Stack1-1913.jpg

Stack-2-1913.jpg

Stealthbombers.jpg

And Han's defence:

Defence-1913.jpg

Declared this turn. I'm clearly stronger than Han now who still has to make it to plastics so i decide to change my goal from space race to a domination like win, i'm well ahead in tech so i can afford to do this. Also i fear this problem keeps coming back if i don't take some drastic solutions since i'm still some 30-40 turns away from a space win. I keep Carthage and plan to conquer all Han's land. He coughs up quite a bit of units together with his vassal SB so i have to play careful but eventually Han and Monty vassalize to me. SB had broken free from Han at that time. Still quite a bit of work to do in order to achieve the domination win, Bismarck likes me though so in 1938 AD:

diplo-win-1938.jpg

Tense and interesting game, i wasn't sure i'd succeed in the first war, by the time i declared for the second time i felt i was winning the game. A very late win for a deity game. Still none of the AIs is close to space even at this moment.

Congratulations dirk :goodjob:

I was hoping for some input but will likely continue one of these days...

Read through my last (post #68)? I am not doing that bad altough I have been quite lucky and made some minor mistakes. Comments are appreciated.

I did a while ago,
Spoiler :

I also looked at your save some time ago, i thought you were doing fine then. You could have settled the coastal cities in your backyard a bit sooner imo. It's one thing i always have to keep in mind myself, blocking in the early game is good but you have to take time out to get those nice spots near your capital settled, there never seems to be time to build the settlers though. I don't think it'll lose you the game, these cities grow fast enough once settled.

What victory condition do you have in mind? If you're planning a war you should really get GT up soon.

Spoiler :
Cap was busy building GL and infra, other cities aren't strong prod wise. Two are finally growing beyond size 3  I also don't like backfilling that late, I usually do it earlier.
I guess military expansion is kina given. Likely hammurabi. If he reaches rifling early I'll go for hann. Dunno, probabely keep on warring then. And, yes, I really need to get GT going. Don't remember exactly where I stand now. Lib race was quite exciting ;) Louis scared me. No machinery = bulbing lib anytime he gets a GS possible.

Spoiler :

I had a neat solution for it this game, i had a city that worked only copper and a gold mine, it brought in some 15 bpt in the early game and it made settlers and workers from 1000 bc until 1000 AD staying at size 2 keeping my other cities free for other things.
