Deity challengers

I'd move the scout 2N1W, I doubt settling more to the southwest is a good idea, looks like there is some desert.

I'm sorry guys I won't find time to play before I leave to Gran Canaria (where we make our matura holidays... so glad it's all over now, no more exams, no more stress...). I will be able to play afterwards though - I just guess you'll have to be a bit flexible in the roster.

Good luck :)

Ok Mysty, you'll be put after Shyuhe in the roster so you have some time :)
I like your suggestion, is anyone OK with it? In this case I'll move the scout so we can finally decide on where we want Moscow :)

I think he's right. Move the scout 2N1W so we can see whether there's some resources over there.

I find it very unlikely that we won't settle in place so it doesn't matter to me. I guess the northern hill has a higher % of making us want to move (won't waste a flood if we move north), but it's minimal. I suggest you pick one and settle in place unless something major is revealed and get the "real" decisions started.

OK, I can't do it untill 4/5 hours so if anyone of you can move the scout and repost the save... otherwise I'll do it once back at home

Scout didn't reveal anything interesting so I settled in place.

Only 1 resource so far, but a very good one. The sheep tile will be 5F and 2C when improved.

AH seems a no-brainer. There's also a pretty good chance we have horses.

If horses -> wheel to hook them up and/or produce chariots followed by pottery via agriculture or fishing seems good.
If no horses -> TBD.

I suggest you start by playing to AH to find out whether we have horses in the BFC.

OK so I played 13 turns until AH...
poped three huts, one for map, another for 35 gold, and one for the wheel!

Unfortunately our scout (who has a tough fight next turn :() revealed what looks like an isolated start:

Do we continue if that's the case (this situation makes Cathy's traits worthless :()?

In anycase, fishing -> pottery seems tempting... no agriculture resource spotted... unless BW is stronger?

Thoughts?

Cheers,
Ras

Roster (unless reroll):

Raskolnikov -> just played
Rusten-> up
Duckweed -> on deck
Dirk
PaulusIII
Shyuhe
Mystyfly

Although I prefer a tougher map, I would not mind to reroll since I don't like isolated start and it is really hard in deity. ;) Worse than facing Shaka alone in an island.

Looks isolated but i suggest we continue. There's some unexplored areas but even now i see 7 good cities already and ~10 total. With some more seafood in the west and some luck in the large dark area north east i think we can have some 15 cities up, enough to be competitive on this level.

^>10 cities is very common in isolated start. The problem is that your tech will stay way behind to the top AIs in the whole game

I really am not a fan of Cathy, but since you guys picked her, you're stuck with her :P

She is Financial IIRC, which really isn't so hot. A lot of fat-good that is doing you right now, and if you are indeed stuck isolated here, not having industrious puts more fuel onto the fire. However, BtS deity is very easy compared to warlords so don't worry about it too much. There's still a bunch of different ways to win here so just take it one step at a time.

Shame Cathy doesn't start with agriculture here, you could have really abused that on the floodplains, and also not having it has cost you that 20% overlay on AH. Grrrr.

@ Obs: You're thinking of vanilla Cathy. In BTS she has Imperialistic, which is worse for this situation. :(

I'm voting in favour of a reroll. I don't like isolated starts, especially when I'm not even sure I can handle the difficulty level.

We aren't sure whether we're isolated yet. Having a strong capital like this is very good too. If we can take CoL from the Oracle we'll have good research with early CS. We've got good chances of getting it seeing as we popped the wheel, got some commerce, and don't need BW. We're also in no rush to settle cities.

Edit: Missed that we don't have horses -- in that case popping the wheel doesn't help much and we have to get archery.

I don't like rerolling starts, but I won't mind if the majority wants to. I do consider isolated games very boring -- especially in a SG format. I think the roster interest would be pretty low.

Thinking about it further I think I vote for a reroll too. I don't want to play an isolated SG. Maybe I'll play it out in SP (if we abandon it).

Minor rant: bad to move the scout like you did last turn. By going 1N you don't reveal anything. If you'd move 1NE instead we'd see a lot of coast and have more information (possibly find another landmass).

OK, the majority is for a reroll ...as it's my vote too ;) Dirk wanted to continue, and Shyuhe and Mysty haven't posted yet... I'll post another save just after lunch :)

There was a hut there :p

If anyone wants I could generate and put up an interesting and playable map using the same settings. I won't be able to play this round myself but still have an interest in reading how it plays out.

But I appreciate that some people like to keep the games as truely random as possible.
