We're done, we won convincingly and are on to steeper challenges

. Seriously, it seems immortal aw challenges provide a bigger challenge than your average deity start. You could say this was an easy one, i'd agree but look at my game in the ST&T forum, it's probably even easier than this one. Also look at the deity cookbook start i once generated, it was completely random iirc but even easier than this one and my current babylonian game. Duckweed posted some rigged maps with less land to expand but in those games the ais were just too stupid late game. DMOC posted a game where MM started with an enormous empire, unfortunately he felt that humans should have a good start as well to even compete. But humans can make far more of a good start than ais can so that game wasn't too difficult as well. There are very difficult starts, isolated deity as Duckweed claims can be very difficult , semi isolated with Gilgamesh is no party either as i found out myself in my deity challenge ptII. But most starts aren't like that and are just winnable with good play.
I think the steepest challenge would be to go back to warlords/vanilla and try on deity there but no one would be interested so if i would try it i would do it offline.
AW games and other games with handicaps as we have been playing here are fun but a bit artificial of course. I'm thinking of trying normal deity but giving the ais an extra settler, easy to do in xml but perhaps not so easy to win as blocking huge amounts of land as in this game or the other games i mentioned belongs to the past then.
AW is fun to play but it has it's problems imo compared to normal high level play:
You miss the whole diplo/trade spectrum making it all a bit 1 dimensional.
Gameplay focuses a lot on details checking and rechecking what's happening all the time making it a bit tiresome. I had a hard time playing only 10 rounds in that aw game and bestsss reported the same problems, not always being at war is more relaxing. You can enjoy being in a good position once in a while without always needing to watch your back.
