Deity of Random - Try 1

1923 a

We roll into a city of Perc's that he had shared with on one of our small continents.

Note: A turn earlier we popped another GM.

And, we roll into the final city of Zara's which he had on that continent. I guess we didn't have TOO much trouble there, now did we.

Since I don't plan to capture any more Zara islands for a bit, I think it's time to make a temporary truce, and perhaps focus on Mr. backstabbing-Perc for now. There's a bunch of stacks of his I'd like to nuke.

Speaking of nuke, Zara shows us a -42 diplo penalty for nuking him, and an additional -20 for nuking his friend Perc. Haha.

Not only do we get 560 g for this truce, but another city as well. Sure, it's a crappy city, but I was so close to a domination win I was happy to get it. Every little bit helps, even at this late stage.

1925
Welp, it turns out that no other city take-overs was needed. Our % of area ownership finally hit the mark and by 1925 it was all over with our Domination Victory. Ohh, and for the reccord, I could have sped this up if I hadn't made another mistake.

One of our island cities was sharing an island in the south-west. Perc got the jump on us when he backstabbed us and hit it with a bunch of modern armour and helicopters. There is a chance I MAY have been able to hold it if I had properly upgraded the units there, but I had not caught that in time, at least not until I had spent the remainder of my gold that time upgrading units elsewhere. And of course, he had tanks that were hidden in the FoW shadows just to make things more unpredictable/surprising. Damn cheater!

One more shot of the power graph. Yup, Zara had the power lead over us, not as much as Perc's rediculous power lead before, but nevertheless a close look shows when we took our first little drop vs Zara, he in turn took a TREMENDOUS nose-dive in return.

Again, this only proves the point that deity AI's are utterly TERRIBLE at warfare, and who ever is coding them at Firaxis is definitely getting paid too much (or not enough?).

Extra Notes:
This game wasn't really my style, but I can't complain, at least I was forced to play a non State-property game. So I don't mind having to force myself to bend to other's ideals, as long as they are sound. I was rather fortunate that everyone on the team knew what they were doing, and hence set good foundations earlier in the game, which made it easy enough to topple the two large giants at the end.

Myself, not having been able to play that many BtS games yet, I still learned a few things, and will probably pick up a few other game-mechanics later on. That is, assuming we all don't drop this for colonization next. Time will tell.

Oh, and my 2 cents. Colonization will probably end up hogging the spotlight for the next 4 years, and there will be at least 3 new expansions for it, all spaced by 12 months. They have a lot of experience now in milking their products.

speechless. this really was an incredible game: playing with one of the weakest civs on a crappy piece of land against some of the best (ie hannibal, zara, pericles) on the hardest difficulty. absolutely phenomenal guys.

thanks

I am finally back and read through obsolete's post. What a carnage... ;)

@obsolete: great play! :goodjob: How did you endure all that micromanaging (for so many turns)? ;)

@all: That was a very interesting and challenging game! Hope everybody had as much fun as I did. :)

I am a builder, so I don't mind the micromanagement so much. Also, I had a few telephone conversations with my gf throughout the long hours of the night, so I didn't mind doing a little bit of multi-tasking.

I wouldn't mind giving Arch. maps one more shot. If someone else had gotten the G-Lighthouse, Sushi, etc. first I wonder how much different things would have gone. I think we had things a little TOO easy here.

after reading trhought the whole thing in one sitting, from 11pm to 3:30 am utterly speechles as how you could win this game. (very impresive) the whole time i was getting tired as you were from the MM involved, and i realy respekted obsolete for bringing it home.. (one of my favorite pre-late game part was the "heart attack" joke, very cruel)
and then obsolete says:

"I think we had things a little TOO easy here"

man, i shall never read anything from you guys again! :) suckiest start ever, with the worst leader, on a isolated start... on hardest setting.. and he says too easy..

great read!
